¤ all youngjae wants, is for her to smile
"hey (y/n), don't forget that our anniversary celebration is in the evening." youngjae grinned, wrapping an arm around you.
you simply hummed in response, closing your locker as you rearranged the books in your arms.
"i can help you-"
"no, its okay." you rejected his offer.
"i can walk you to-"
"its fine." you interrupted.
"ah- okay. take care (y/n). see you later." he mumbled, his lips turning into a small frown as he pressed a gentle kiss to your cheek.
you watched as he walked off to his friends, spinning around to take one last look at you before walking into his class.
you sighed, running a hand through your hair in distress as you stalked off to your own class.
-
you threw your pen across the room in exasperation, causing all the students to turn and look at you.
studies were never your thing.
despite working extremely hard, your subjects were failing terribly and you knew you werem't going to make it for the final test.
you watched as the teacher took a look at her watch before dismissing the class.
it was two minutes before the schelduled dismissal time, and your teacher had never did this before.
"(y/n), could you come and see me?" the teacher called out.
you nodded your head discreetly as you made your way to the front, hearing some hurried whispers around you.
"at first i thought (y/n) was really cool, like she's so damn pretty actually. but it seems like she has some anger management issues." you heard a girl whisper to her friend.
"ew are you joking? pretty? why is youngjae even dating her?" the other girl whispered back.
you rolled your eyes, stopping in front of the teacher's table.
"so (y/n), i've been taking note of your class attendance, and it isn't very good, you have been absent for more than half the semester, " she stated, pushing her spectacles higher up her nose bridge as she read through a navy-blue file.
"i don't want you to fail (y/n), you yourself should know how badly you have been doing this year. if you could just take some time out from today," she paused, handing you a thick stack of worksheets, "please finish all these up before you head home, place it at the office after you finished."
with that, she left the classroom.
you scoffed.
it wasn't like you didn't do enough papers, you just didn't understand how to solve the equations.
you whipped out your phone, telling youngjae that he didn't need to wait up for you, before sliding into the nearest seat and starting on the work.
-
you deposited the stack of papers in the office, finally feeling free from the heavy load.
you felt your phone vibrate in your pocket, taking it out, your phone showed a missed alarm:
anniversary date reminder.
cursing under your breath, you broke into a sprint.
you knew how much your anniversary meant to youngjae.
he purposely invited you to his house just to celebrate it.
you couldn't help but feel a tinge of regret for forgetting about it so easily.
-
"sorry- youngjae- i-" you panted, upon finally reaching his house.
you could see the slight disappointment written on his face at you coming one hour late.
you steadied yourself before continuing, "i'm really sorry youngjae. the teacher made me do some extra practices and uh- i kinda loss track of time."
he stayed quiet before speaking up, his lips curling into a soft smile, "its alright, at least you're here now,"
"oh and i have a present for you."
you felt your heart drop, immediately knowing that he would be upset.
the thing was,
you forgot about getting him a gift.
you bit on your bottom lip nervously as he placed a small box in your palm.
you looked at him before looking back down at the box, your fingers hesitantly opening it.
your eyes widened when you saw a silver necklace, knowing that it wasn't cheap.
you gulped, mumbling, "but youngjae.. i didn't get you anything.."
"ah- that's alright. you're not obliged to give me anything." he smiled.
"but- but-" you stuttered, "i ought to repay you for.. forgetting about our anniversary.."
"can i ask you for a favour then?" he asked, as you nodded your head quickly, ready to do anything youngjae asked for.
you couldn't express how much guilt you felt.
"then is it possible if you could.. smile for me?" he requested.
you looked down at your fumbling hands, knowing that a promise you made couldn't be broken.
you sighed before looking up, flashing him a small, hesitant smile, before looking away swiftly.
you saw as youngjae's eyes widened and his smile brightened.
you smiled for barely a second but just being able to catch that smile, youngjae felt his whole world light up.
"that was the best thing i ever saw in my life (y/n), its the best gift ever." he whispered, engulfing you in a hug.
you smiled to yourself, leaning in to youngjae's touch.
