Another milestone! Chapter 30! And 16k!! Thank you guys for reading and keeping me going 😊❤ It's too long my lovelies, sorry about that, I've been sick and then I had to go be a house sitter at my mom's when she went on vacation, but now I'm back! :)

While Donghae headed into his small office room, Hyang-sook and I began prepping the ingredients and cutting the various meat and vegetables for the dinner.

"If you cut the onion, like this, it's much easier to cut the small pieces," Hyang-sook cut into the onion, not cutting all the way down and then divided it in the middle and cut it out into perfect small pieces.

I watched intently and followed everything she did. "It does look way better like that," I commented and tried the technique on another onion.

I didn't quite succeed and it didn't look half as good as hers, but at least it was cut. "This is hard," I sighed and let go of the knife.

She looked over at what I had been doing and chuckled to herself, "It looks fine, you'll get it with some more practice. I couldn't do it perfectly the first time either."

"Thanks," I smiled and took a new onion and tried the technique again. This time a little better than the first. She looked over and gave me a thumbs-up of approvement and I proudly continued cutting onions.

We spent the time cutting vegetables and chatting about me and my family and about Donghae as a child.

Hyang-sook taught me many tricks to use when cooking and it made everything a lot easier. I'd have to remember all of this for the next time I'd be cooking dinner or something else.

When we were done, the apartment smelled like Bulgogi and spicy rice cake. Donghae's head popped into the kitchen, "I can smell it in the whole apartment and my mouth is watering," he took in the smells in the kitchen and exhaled lightly.

"We're done, help your girlfriend set the table, son," Hyang-sook handed Donghae 3 plates and I gathered cups and utensils, following Donghae to the dining table.

He grabbed my arm and gave my lips a quick peck. "What was that for?" I asked grinning widely.

"Nothing just wanted to," he smiled and ran a hand through my hair.  From starting out being extremely nervous about meeting Donghae's mom to thinking she'd hate me, I had been quite lucky with how everything had turned out.

I didn't hate his mother and she didn't hate me, in fact, I already loved her. She was so nice and kind. She reminded me a lot of Donghae, she was just as hardworking and sensitive.

Sometimes she reminded me of my own mom when she smiled. She had that unique way of smiling, where her lips would curl up and she wouldn't show her teeth.
My mom did that too when she was alive and that was a nice kind of memory to have, something that I could be reminded of whenever I was with Donghae's mom.

We finished setting the table and then I began setting out the side dishes and Donghae's mom came out with the main dish, which was bulgogi.

We sat down and I politely served Hyang-sook first, thereafter Donghae and then myself.

"This is delicious!" Donghae mused and smiled at the both of us like a small child on Christmas receiving the present he so desperately wished for.

I couldn't help but get all warm and fuzzy in my heart, it made me all giddy when he was smiling like that. I just made me love him even more.

"Well, your girlfriend worked very hard, so you better be good to her son," Hyang-sook glance at me and then at Donghae.

"Hey... you worked hard too Hyang-sook ssi," I replied, feeling weird to take all the credit for the food. She winked at me and said, "Yeah, but you were very attentive and you did everything I asked you to, you were a model student in my cooking class."

We both started giggling. "It was an easy and good cooking class so I could follow your lead smoothly," I threw back another compliment and Donghae watched us give each other compliments like he was watching a tennis match.

"Son, I'm telling you, this one's a keeper. I can't wait to be an official mother in law," She gave Donghae a stern look as to say, don't let this one go and please get married and have grandkids soon, I'm not immortal.

Donghae averted his gaze for a moment and then looked over to me as if to signal he needed some sort of rescue but I just shrugged cause I had no idea what to do. You're on your own on this one babe.

They bickered sweetly back and forth for a bit and I just watched them like it was a tv show and I was on the first row while stuffing my head with bulgogi.

When we had finished, Donghae was sweet and did the dishes for us. Hyang-sook and I sat at the table and chit chatted for a while.

"You know, you remind me a lot of my mom," I spoke honestly and I could sense it shocked her a little and I thought that she might feel weird about it.

"Oh, I'm sorry..." she said quietly and became silent for a moment.

Then I laid a hand on top of hers and reassured her that it wasn't bad. "No, don't be sorry. It's a good thing, I'm happy to be reminded of her, then I won't forget her you know. It's nice to be reminded of all the good things from when she was alive, so thank you," I looked her kindly in the eyes to assure her that I was sincere.

"Oh honey, I'm glad that I can help you to remember your mother. I'm still sorry, look... I know I can never replace her, but please, if you ever need to talk or you just need some motherly advice, please don't hesitate to talk to me, okay?" She was smiling but still had that look of sadness in her eyes, that said she couldn't imagine what it was like losing your mother at a young age like me.

"Thank you so much, I will," we hugged and I suddenly became emotional.

"Are you okay darling?" She asked when she noticed I had tears in my eyes.

"I'm fine, I just got a bit emotional is all. Nothing sad, these are happy tears in some way," I said through glassy eyes and sniffled.

She handed me a piece of tissue paper and I quickly dried away the tears at the brim of my eyes.

"Okay, darling, should we go get some ice cream? Looks like you could use some?" She redid her messy low hanging bun and clapped her hands.

"Sure, I could go for some ice cream,"

We both went to the kitchen where Donghae was finishing up the dishes.

"Y/n and I are going for some ice cream, you want some honey?" Hyang-sook gently ruffled her son's hair as he was standing by the kitchen sink.

"Sure mom, I'd like some. Be careful on your way okay." He kissed her on the cheek when he finished the last dish in the sink.

"Alright, let's get ready and go," She looked over at me and went to the hallway to get her jacket and shoes.

"See you in a bit babe," I smiled and gave him a quick peck on the lips.

"Alright, see you beautiful," he grabbed me and pulled me close to him and he gave me a big smooch on the lips. I poked his cheek softly and kissed it.

"Bye babe, don't get into any trouble," I giggled and called after him as I went to the hallway where his mom was waiting for me.
