Thomas –

You have been in the Glade for a month now and you have been assigned to building for your strength. As you were carrying a large pile of wood from the Homestead, Thomas comes running up to you. “Hey, Y/N.” “Hi Tom,” you reply, dumping the pile of wood and walking back to the Homestead to pick up some more. “Shouldn’t you be out in the Maze?” you ask curiously. “Minho gave me the day off.” “Oh, that’s cool,” you say a little too brightly, suddenly feeling stupid at your level of enthusiasm. Damn. You hope he didn’t notice how much you liked him. Luckily, he didn’t notice. “Y/N, what are you doing tonight?” “Let’s see – I’m going to eat and do nothing for the rest of the night. You?” “I-I-I was wondering if I could talk to you later to-tonight,” he stutters, looking at the ground. You were shocked at this. He was usually so confident and brave in anything. But he’s only talking to a girl and he develops a mumbling problem. You stare at him. “Are you feeling okay?” you ask, slowly becoming concerned. “No, no, I’m fine – just wanted to talk to you.” “Uh, yeah, sure,” you reply. “Okay, I’ll see you after dinner.” “See you, Tom.” He walks off briskly and starts speaking to Alby. Hmmm… you think. I wonder what he wants to talk to me about.

You finish your dinner and thank Frypan before going for your nightly walk around the Glade. As you were nearing the forest, you hear fastly approaching footsteps behind you. “Y/N!” came Thomas’ voice. You turn around as he slows down. “Hey,” you say, continuing to walk while fixing your hair. “Okay, this isn’t easy for me to say, but I need to clear the air.” You stop and turn to look at him straight in the eyes. “Y/N, I have really liked you – no loved you – since the day you fell on top of me after coming out of the Box.” He heaves a great big sigh. “I know what you’re thinking – yuck, or whatever, but I hope we can be more than friends.” And the thing you least expect from him is that he bends over and your lips meet. His kiss sent ripples of warmth through your body and you wrap your arms around his neck, his arms around your waist, and you pull him closer as your kiss deepens. This continued for about thirty seconds until you pulled away, gasping for breath. “I’ve been wanting to do that for ages,” you giggle, smiling. Thomas returns the smile. “Me too.”

Newt –

Being a Slicer was no job for a girl. Killing animals was totally against your morals and you couldn’t stand pulling out pig’s intestines every day. You’ve tried to plead with Alby, but he always simply says, “There are no other jobs that you can do, Y/N.”  You decide to try one more time. Bad choice. This time Alby snaps. “Look, Y/N, the next time you ask me this, I will personally feed you to the Grievers, got that?!” You are taken back by this and grumble from frustration. You storm off without noticing someone was following you. “Y/N, wait up!” calls Newt and you stop dead. What does he want? You turn around and see Newt briskly running (with a slight limp) to you. “What do you want?” you mumble, looking away. “Oh, don’t be like that, Y/N. Alby doesn’t mean it.  It was just a heat-of-the-moment statement. Don’t take it to heart.” You sigh. “Well, you don’t know how hard it is being the only girl here. Everyone here either treats me like a boy or doesn’t take any notice of me.” “Well, I don’t ignore you, and I hope I don’t treat you like a boy. I think you should be recognised as a girl in the Glade. Do you know how much guts it would take to be a Slicer?” You give him a look. “Sorry, bad joke. But I know most of the guys here would gag or vomit. Including me,” Newt finishes, raising his hand as if to identify himself. You release the laugh you had been holding in that whole time. “That’s what I really like about you, Newt. You can always put a smile on my face.” “It’s kind of hard to when you are always smiling,” Newt replies. You can feel yourself beaming. “Y/N, do you like me?” he asks, leaning against a tree. “Of course I like you, Newt,” you answer, grabbing his cheek and pulling at it like he was a baby. “Yeah, but DO you like me?” You think about this. You have really liked Newt since he helped you out of the Box. “I just told you, of course I do. Who could resist you?” “No, I’m being serious now.” Newt’s face hardened. You are kind of stunned. Why did he want to know how much you liked him? “Fine. Well, truth is, I like you, Newt. A lot.” “As friends, or something more?” he asks quietly. You gulp. “You could be something more. But it depends where the future takes us.” You sit and start to draw little pictures in the dirt. Newt squats and lifts up your chin with his hand. “I think we could be something more too.” And that was when his lips crashed onto yours. At first it was awkward, but in time, your lips were in synchronisation with his and you both enjoyed it for a couple more minutes. You stare into the eyes you fell in love with and snuggle close to his chest.

Minho –

Everyone was crowding around the Maze now. The doors would be closing very soon. You run over to Thomas and Newt and stand in between them. “Are they back? Can you hear them?” you ask anxiously, looking from side to side.

Both Thomas and Newt shake their heads. You bite your lip and wait impatiently for Minho and Alby. You try to calm yourself by counting up really fast. That didn’t work. You begin to try all different method when you hear grunts. You look up to see Minho slinging Alby on his back and trying to get to the Glade as fast as he can. You run into the Maze to help. “No, you’ve gotta go back Y/N. I’m not going to make it.” “Yes you are,” I counter slinging one of Alby’s arms around your shoulders. ”Let’s go!” you shout and you start to progress down the path. A loud, rumble stops both of you dead. No. The doors were closing. You pick up the pace as the rest of the Gladers are encouraging you. Twenty metres left. Fifteen. Ten. But it was too late. The doors had slammed shut and you were stuck in the Maze for the night. “Nice one, Y/N – you just killed yourself.” “Hey, you needed help, and I don’t regret my choice,” you retaliate, folding your arms. “And how are we supposed to survive when I have to carry dead weight?” Minho asks. “Okay first of all – WE carry Alby. Second, I know where to hide him.” “Where?” Minho asks. “Under a tangle of ivy I found when I was once mapping out a section,” you reply. “Okay, lead the way,” Minho offers. You walk in front of him and walk for about ten minutes, taking many left and right turns along the way. When you spot the ivy, you signal for Minho to stop. “Roll him under here.” You point at a spot that the ivy drapes over the ground and you both place him on the ground, wrapping him in the ivy so he was camouflaged. You put your hands on your hips and sigh. “He’ll be safe there for the night.”

“Okay, and what about us?” Minho asks. “We survive, find Alby in the morning and return to the Glade,” you say. “Well, let’s go,” Minho replies, running back to where you first started. You jog as well, many thoughts running through your mind. You have liked Minho for quite some time now and this was the opportunity to show him your strength. You catch up to him and ask, “Why do you like being a Runner?” “I could ask you the same question,” Minho smirks. You don’t reply and you both continue running.

A few minutes later, you hear a familiar sound. Uh oh. Click click whirl. Click click whirl. The sound of a Griever sent shivers up your spine, even though you’ve never seen one. At this point Minho whispers, “Run as fast as you can.” You follow his orders and start to sprint. As you turn one corner, you run into a massive and long piece of iron. You look up to see a Griever roaring in your face as its tail appears from behind and stabs you in the side. You scream from the pain and fall down. You hear a voice, screaming, “Y/N, get out of there!” But you start to slip away from the world as two arms pick you up bridal style and start to run.

Your vision is blurry but you are conscious of what is around you. You can see Minho’s face and try to get up, but you are too weak and Minho helps lay you back down. “What happened? Where am I?” “You were stung by a Griever, and it’s nearly morning and we are still in the Maze,” Minho answers. “I feel so dizzy,” you say, rubbing your forehead. “But you saved me, Minho.” “I’m sure you would have done the same thing for me,” Minho replies. “You did an idiotic thing. You could have run, but instead you decide to get stung.” ”Hey, I’ve never seen a Griever before,” you defend yourself. Minho brushes the hair out of your face. “Y/N, you’re going to make it. I’ll make sure of that.” And with that he kisses you on the lips. It was the sweetest thing you have ever felt flow through your body but you pull away, because the pain of the sting is still with you. “The sting….. I’m sorry, Minho, it’s the sting…” He puts a finger to your lips. “I get it, Y/N.” And that is when you close your eyes again.
