I gaze around my new home. I am surrounded by boys, whether they are digging, gathering, or running in and out of the Maze. I sigh and sit next to Teresa, ripping up grass from beneath my foot. "What do you do?" I ask timidly, staring at the ground. "I am mainly in charge of the maps in the Map Room," she answers, sensing my uneasiness. "I sometimes work with my boyfriend, Thomas." I gulp and examine the Glade. One catches my eye, and he had just run into the Glade out of the Maze. I sigh and Teresa catches my eye. "That, my friend, is my boyfriend, Thomas." My cheeks instantly flush red and she laughs lightly. Hand on my arm, she brushes off lightly, "It's okay. I don't mind." And she leaves me sitting under the tree as she goes to greet her boyfriend.

I sit and eat my dinner with Teresa, Thomas and Newt. I gaze around the table, and find Minho staring straight at me. I break our stares like a knife and my eyes snap back down to my plate. I look back up and now find Thomas gazing thoughtfully. I smile, and he smiles back, my heart fluttering like a butterfly.

I lie against the Homestead, waiting for Teresa to join me. I hear a faint snap to my right and look over to find Thomas slowly walking towards me, careful not to tread on more branches. I raise a hand to my mouth playfully as he leans next to me. "Teresa and I aren't a thing, you know." Shocked, I open my mouth to protest when Thomas continues, "She's fancied me since she got here, but honestly, you seem like a more down-to-earth kind of girl." Glad that it is night and no one can see my embarrassment, I look down at the ground when Thomas leans closer to my nose. We touch nose to nose when I hear Teresa's voice calling my name. I pull back and whisper to him, "Meet me here in twenty minutes."
