I comb my fingers through my knotty hair, almost ripping it out of its roots. My breathing has not slowed since Thomas and Minho came back, and I pace right outside the Doors, desperately waiting for a sign, a voice, anything. Most of the Gladers had gone to sleep, but Thomas had agreed to stay with you.
"Newt's very strong, you know," Thomas rips out a bunch of grass and sprinkles it over the ground. I take a shaky breath. "Yeah, he was. Who knows how he'll be now. God, I feel so sick..." I feel a tear slip from my eye, and I shakily wipe it away, hoping to erase all the doubt and worry drowning my thoughts. "I mean, he hasn't run in ages. He didn't even do any physical training, he just ran into the Maze without thinking of the conse-" Thomas sighs loudly, loud enough to cut me off. "He's strong. You're strong. Just... if you both stay strong, you'll see each other in the morning." I shake my head anxiously, continuing to rake my fingers through my hair. Thomas pats my shoulder, before standing up and walking back to the Homestead. I bring my knees close to my chest, hugging them tightly, just as I would hug my love, had he been in my arms.

I open my eyes groggily, letting out white puffs of air from the chilly morning. I hadn't realised I fell asleep on the grass last night, and even though it was cold, it could never compete with how it would have felt sleeping without him by my side in our shared bed. I sit up, quickly pulling my hair back into a loose bun and making my way over for breakfast.
I take a seat next to Thomas silently, staring into my bowl of oats as Thomas rubs my back soothingly. "Where were you this morning? I went to wake you up but you weren't in your room." I look away, not bearing to meet eyes with him. "I fell asleep outside last night. I couldn't bear to sleep there, without him." Thomas nods understandingly, turning his attention to his own breakfast. "Alby is going to come with Minho and I today. We're going to look for Newt." I look up at him, feeling fear contorting my features and uncertainty washing over me. "Do you think you'll find him, honestly?" Thomas gazes over to the Doors, and releases a long sigh. "I don't know. I hope so." Alby approaches us and whispers to Thomas, "We gotta go." Thomas stands up and brushes himself off, placing a hand on my shoulder with a determined expression in his eye. "We'll find him," he assures me, and walks off to prepare his Pack for the day. I stare at the Doors, wishing they would open, and as if on cue, the familiar rumbling echoes throughout the Glade. I stand up, almost knocking over my bowl but I didn't care. Nothing mattered. I just hope he's safe.
I run. I run to the Doors, hoping he is on the other side. I trip countless times on my journey to the Doors, but I don't care. I stand and wait as I squint through the opening.
Streaks of orange and blue spill into the entrance, causing the vines growing on the walls to glisten with morning dew. I wait. I stand, knees buckling and heart racing. The Doors rumble to a stop, and the path is empty. There is no Newt.
I breathe. That's all I can do. I can't think, I can't blink, I'm even having trouble standing. I fall to my knees on the damp grass, and I the prickling sensation behind my eyes. My hands fly to my face as I sob uncontrollably. I feel a pair of arms wrap around me and my head is brought to a warm chest. I look up and meet Teresa's apologetic eyes. I pry her arms off me and stand up. Then I run. I don't even think, I just run. I block out the sounds of Gally and Alby screaming at me to stop, but I don't. I run straight into the Maze and take a right turn.
"NEWT!" I scream, having difficulty keeping my voice calm. There is no reply. I continue to run, unsure of where I'm going. I scream his name again, but to an empty void. I stop and lean against the wall. He's gone. He's really gone. My thoughts drown themselves, buried under those two words. He's gone.
I take deep breaths, clenching my fists so hard I could almost break my knuckles. I am interrupted, however, by a grunt. It doesn't seem too far away, but I have no idea where it came from. I stand again, aching for my tears and listening intently. My heartbeat is faster than normal. I hear another grunt, and this time I follow the noise.
I can hear more grunts and sounds as I round another corner. I see a figure pulling something from underneath a collection of vines. I run to the figure, hoping against hope that it's him. But it's not. Minho wipes his forehead and stands up, and I approach him. "Minho." He turns to me and smiles. "I hope I'd find you. Help me." He squats back down and I ask the question that has been occupying my mind since I first saw him. "What are you doing?"
"Ah, shuck. Can you please just help?" His tone is surly, so I oblige. I help him pull on something, and I realise it's an arm. My eyes widen. Whose arm is this? I continue to pull, using all energy that was left in me, and I gasp when I see who the arm connects to.
"Shuck it Minho, how weak are you?" I smile at his sarcastic comment, and once Minho stands up, I pounce on top of Newt and wrap my arms and legs around his body. "Oh my god, I thought you were dead!" I allow all my tears out, burying my face into the crook of his neck and placing a soft kiss there. He wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me impossibly close. I feel a warm liquid slide down my cheek, and I realise he is also crying. I lift my head up and kiss him, making all my emotions flow into him. He kisses me back with just as much force, our lips tingling and quivering. I slightly pull away and open my mouth to say I love you, but he takes this opportunity to slip his tongue into my mouth as it mingles with mine. I gasp, but soon adjust to the changes and smile, all the while hearing Minho gag several times.
"Please, can we do this once he gets looked at by the med-jacks?" Minho asks in a frustrated tone. I mumble an apology and untangle my body from Newt's. He stands up and brushes himself off, then holds out his hand to me. I take it and he pulls me up, resting the other hand on my hip and whispering in my ear, "We'll continue this later." I smile and rest my forehead against his, and say, "Let's."
A/N: Hello lovelies!! Now, I have no excuse to get away with why I haven't updated, but I just started to lose interest in this book. In addition to no internet at home (seriously, I've had no internet in over a year, I gotta mooch off my friend's and my school's internet) I just haven't updated in ages. I also received a message last week from a reader, and she asked if I could do a part three to another girl in the glade. I suppose she gave me an epiphany, so thank you so much for that! But my most sincere apologies, my fellow friends.
Be sure to vote/comment/fan, I love you my most faithful!
