The house is quiet as they walk in.

Her mother was at the hospital tending to Kara. She hadn't been home since Kara first was admitted. Mr. Monroe was the one who always came home each night and took clothes for her. He told her that he liked their own bed better than what the hospital provided. Carla was a mess the few times Lila had seen her.

Her mother didn't like anyone visiting Kara and was almost kicked out when Ms. Masion came to visit. Ms. Masion and her son Darren had since moved out to a house a few blocks over. Gardenia still came everyday to clean; but they were no longer allowed to live there. Darren, who was Alexander's age, despised them. He still looked up to his father due to fear and admiration; but everyone else felt the hatred steaming off of him.

Lila was fine to see him leave but missed Ms. Masion dearly. Although she got to see her on various days it wasn't the same. The quiet wasn't Lila's favorite thing to hear. In fact it terrified her.
The whole house terrified her now.

She rushes to the basement room and quickly shuts the door. The lock clicks and she sighs with relief.
She needed an escape but she wasn't sure where to go. The basement was her only solitude within the house. The only place that no one liked to go. Therefore she didn't have to hear hurtful remarks or feel uncomfortable stares.

"Lila, Dinner."

She hears him stumbling around in the kitchen heating whatever Ms. Masion had left them. She consider not responding; not eating until school the next day. She was so upset about her attack at the Luthors' had it not have happened she would have been able to convince them that she should stay. Why had she been so angry and tried to leave. It seemed stupid now.

"Lila!"

She knows she can't ignore him and she will have to endure the uncomfortableness. Lila shouts her response be for he calls again.

"Be right there!"

She puts her books down and changes from her school clothes in to sweat pants and a sweater. And starts the dreaded walk to the kitchen.

Once she there a whiff of the dinner hits her; her stomach growls in response. He chuckles as if the funniest sound he has ever heard.

"See, I knew my little girl was hungry."

"Yes."

"Yes what?"

"Yes, daddy."

She cringes but doesn't let him see. There is a plate of spaghetti on the counter; she grabs one and sit at the table. He gives her quizzical looks as he pours a hefty glass of whiskey.

"Come sit over here."

Lila looks at him, weighing her options. He speaks before she responds.

"Now, Lila."

She reluctantly moves and sits in the seat closer to him.

"That's better. I can talk to you more over here."

"Okay"

"Cheer up Lila. Would seeing Kara tomorrow make you feel better."

"Yes, sir."

Her voice is meek and she tries to eat quickly so that there is less time spent with this awkward situation. He grabs her arm a little harder than usual.
