The Salvatore Boarding Home

"Back in my day," Silas spoke, rushing to the dresser of magic in the married couple's bedroom, to his wife who stood in the doorway "it wasn't unusual for a woman to disappear during quarrels with neighboring settlements, so we would perform rituals for them." He opened a drawer and grabbed a box, which he put on the surface of the dresser. With his magic, the box unlocked and swung open, revealing herbs, flowers, pink rock salts, and incenses. Along with it was a parchment paper, which he took into his hand. "It's protection, the protection you'll need."

Poppy bit her lip, slowly stepping into the room and shutting the door. "Did the women ever return?" She asked quietly.

"Yes." Silas turned around after putting the paper back into the box he was now holding. "Unscathed, at peace with themselves." He looked into her ocean eyes, the eyes that made him melt. He didn't want her to leave, but he knew that nobody had a choice when it came to Arcadius...what a dick. "It'll be okay, Poppy. I'll get you back."

His wife nodded a bit. "Good luck with that." She whispered, then raised her voice to a regular volume. "What do I need to do for the ritual?"

"Lay down." Her husband walked to the bed and set the box down on the night stand.

Poppy bit her lip and did so, laying her head back against the pillows. She closed her eyes, and she felt the plants being laid on her body. She felt the salt being sprinkled on her, and she smelled the incenses as they burned from a small mason jar. Silas picked up the paper and grabbed an incense stick, waving it over her body. He began to speak in a different language, and after saying a sentence he would translate.

"You will be forgiven for what happens by your hand." The herbs began to smoke and catch fire, but nothing else caught on fire, and it didn't burn anything or her. He said another sentence. "You will be barren in your time away." The flowers then caught fire, and he continued. "You will have strength to get back home." The rock salt caught fire, and after Silas spoke a word, everything that was on fire burned brighter, then when the fire died down there was nothing left to burn.

Quietly, Silas placed the incense in jar with the other. He was scared, and saddened, and he would lie and say he wasn't upset with his wife. He understood why she had done it...to protect the twins...but in saving them she carelessly gave up her life to the devil, abandoning him and their own kids.

His wife had always been that way, though. She was sweet, she would risk her life to save another. She would give to those she loved, and to those who needed it.

He remembered when they first met, in the woods with Caroline. It wasn't a pleasant meeting..he had choked her and tortured her. It was far from pleasant. He didn't want to do it, but he was ready to die so it didn't matter to him what he did. She was ready to die, also, to save Bonnie from his wrath.

She did die to save Stefan, that was the second time they had met. He wanted to save her from immortality, especially after all she had went through the week before. When he began helping her, he was confused. There was nothing in it for him. Not really. But as the days went on, he realized how drawn he was to her.

He thought more about the day she died.

"I used to be suicidal, but I realized that I didn't actually want to die, I just didn't want to suffer anymore. I mean yeah, I want to die but not like that and certainly not by drowning..I don't want to be this way." He could hear her younger voice in his head. He remembered how sad she was, she was crying, overwhelmed. "I was supposed to live and die, and not come back. I had plans, Silas. I was going to get married and maybe have a kid or two. Now I'm immortal and I have to live off of blood." He could laugh at how things turned out. The two of them had gotten married, and they had two kids. She was still immortal, though. She had gotten significantly better. She learned her worth, she wanted to live, and she did everyday. She was generally happier, unless something was going on.
