It was supposed to be straightforward. Find my dad and bring him home. But I lived with heroes. That kind of thing leaves an impression on a person. When people are in danger, I have to help. Whether it's because I'm trying to repent for everything I've done or because I feel the need to live up to what everyone wants me to be, Harley and I keep ending up in... interesting situations.
I can't help but feel like I'm dragging him into my problems. It is nice to have him around though. It's amazing. The galaxy is so big but when I'm with him, it's like there's only us. No matter how much we fight and bicker, at the end of the day, we'd die for each other. Hopefully, we'll never have to. Although, we've gotten close a ton of times. I was almost executed like ten minutes ago. And now we're running.
"Small fire! I said to set a small fire!" Harley yells as we duck lasers.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I can't keep fire from spreading," I retort. "You know this wouldn't have happened if-"
He pulls me into our plane, capturing my lips in a kiss, "Shhhhh."
I hit his chest playfully as we take off, "Don't tell me to be quiet."
"I'm beginning to think Rocket was right," Harley hums.
"I'm thinking Vin-tal was right."
Harley's face drops, "Not funny. That's not funny. I can't believe you almost married that guy."
"It wasn't like I had much of a choice in the matter. But I have to admit it was hilarious seeing you so jealous. Last time, you were like that was with Peter."
"You know what was hilarious? When we on Gonkion."
I gasp dramatically, "We agreed to never bring that up ever again."
"I still have some pictures. Do you want to see them? Here, let me-"
"Harley Keener, you have all of 30 seconds to delete those or I will tell Tony about the Stark."
"You know that is not in either of our best interests, his ego will grow 5 times bigger."
I snort, "If that's even possible. Where are we going next?"
"Well, there's this planet with an awfully large amount of gamma radiation. Could be him."
"So we'll head there then," I agree.
Fin Fang Foom yawns, waking up from his nap. He crawls onto the console, chittering at me almost in a judging way.
"It seems like you might be putting this off a little," Harley implies.
"What? I'm not. I want to see my dad again. That's the whole reason we're in space."
"You also have this habit of running away. Your dad leaves, you leave the Avengers, you almost die and you leave everything behind, and then the whole Sterns thing happens, you literally leave the planet. Whether you're running from something or to something, you leave everything behind."
"Okay, and? What does that have to do with my dad?"
"You're not the same person you were when he left. You're afraid he won't feel the same way about you."
My eyes burn at what he says, "Say what's really on your mind, why don't you?"
"I know you better than anyone and the day that I don't tell you exactly what I think is the day we're no longer together and that's never going to happen. You know why?"
I roll my eyes, scoffing lightly, "Because we're connected."
He pecks me on the cheek, "Yep."
"You are so cheesy."
