"Fix your stance," I instruct as I prepare to fight Peter. Sparring keeps my thoughts off of the conversation I was just apart of and the feeling of Peggy's death lingering inside of me.
"I'm not sure about this..." Peter trails off uncertainly. "Remember what happened last time."
I roll my eyes, "Trust me, you won't hurt me."
"Where'd you learn to fight anyway?"
I ignore his question and throw a punch which he catches, "You seem upset."
I knee him in the chest. He lets go of me and I waste no time in flipping him to the ground.
"Ow, that hurt. You just flipped me over like a pancake," He uses his webs to bring me down to the ground. He uses his strength to launch himself at me, kicking my face. The power of his blow sends me hurtling across the floor. "Sorry, still getting used to the super strength."
"Good move, I have a few of my own," My eyes turn pitch black as I absorb all the light in the room. Everything goes into night vision mode for me, allowing me to see Peter perfectly.
"Whoa-what the-" Peter stumbles around aimlessly in confusion
I lunge forward landing precise hits on him, then the light instantly floods back in, temporarily blinding him while I kick him in the chest sending him to the floor. "I call it the Red Devil Ninja, after a certain acquaintance of mine."
"H-how did you do that? Was that like an illusion or something? Or do you have a remote hidden somewhere?"
"You've got to be prepared for everything, Peter," I tell him while gathering my things. "The world is becoming stranger every day and people are powering up. Trust me, I know."
"Are you ever going to tell me who you really are? I don't even know your last name."
I stop what I'm doing and turn to face him, "You want to know who I used to be. I'm focused on becoming someone better. My name's Emily and that's all you need to know for now. I promise I'll tell you everything one day, just not today."
"I'll hold you to that. I'll see you later then."
"See you around, insect-boy, " I quip as I walk out of the abandoned warehouse.
"Arachnid!" He shouts back.
Fortunately, where I'm staying isn't too far from where I am now. I grab my black helmet and slide on a leather jacket. I jump on my bike and plug my phone in. "JOCASTA, take me to the apartment, please."
"Of course, miss."
I typically try and limit using my powers in public. No light-speed travel or light wave riding unless it's absolutely necessary. It's not that hard since Danny Rand gifted me an amazing bike. I really love this bike.
I don't know how I did it but I managed to make... friends. Ironically, most of my friends are people Hydra wanted me to kill. They are also vigilantes for the most part. I guess I just attract those kinds of people. Even my roommate dresses up in a costume and fights bad guys. I wonder what they would say about this whole Sokovia Accords thing. They aren't exactly on the side of the law, except Matt, he's complicated.
I park the awesome bike that I love probably way too much and head into the apartment I share with a blind lawyer.
"Matt?" I call out as I close the door behind me. However, the person bleeding on the couch isn't Matt, it's Frank Castle with Karen Page pacing in the living room.
My eyes widen as I start backing up but Matt's voice stops me. "I was just about to call you. Can you help him?"
I sigh reluctantly as I go over and check on Frank aka the Punisher. He's pretty beat up and bleeding out onto the carpet. "Uh... Yeah, probably Clare Temple lent me some of her supplies for occasions like this."
