Girl's POV

Coming out of unconsciousness, the first thing I notice is how comfortable I am. I'm laying down on a soft surface with something warm covering me.

The second thing I notice is a repetitive beeping sound close by, irritatingly monotone in its insistent noise.

I force my eyes to open, remembering what had occured before I blacked out.

I was laying in a bed in an unfamiliar room. Not moving my head I located the source of the aggravating beeping, a machine sitting close to the bed with wires snaking around it, one which I now notice is attached to my wrist. I recognise the device as a heart rate monitor, I had been hooked up to one plenty of times before by the scientists of Hydra. I also notice that my heart rate hadn't changed from my waking up. Good. I'm not panicking yet, although I have no clue what is going on.

I take a couple of seconds to survey the room. A few more machines accompany the heart monitor, I don't know their purpose though and I'm not about to guess. There is also a large mirror facing the bed by the door, it seems out of place where it is and I suspect it's a one way window, so they can see me but I can't see them. Although at the moment I don't know who 'they' are.

I focus my hearing, listening to find out if anyone is behind the mirror watching me. Closing my eyes to help concentration I am able to faintly hear what sounds like a conversation happening on the other side of the wall.

Third person POV

"When do you think she'll wake up? Fury is impatiant to interrogate her." Tony joins Bruce and Steve, who are watching the telekinetic in case she regains consciousness.

"I don't know, it's been almost 24 hours and there are still no signs that she's going to be up soon, Steve thought he saw her eyes open a minute ago but there was no change in her vitals and they were closed when I checked after."

Bruce speaks to Tony calmly, though he is starting to worry about the small female in the other room, what if she never wakes up?

It has only been a day though and everyone else is hopefull that she will be up and about soon. They have all been taking turns keeping an eye on her, except for Loki, who's been avoiding the floor she is on altogether. No one really expected him to help anyway.

Steve gets Tony's attention as he speaks, "have you found out any other information on her? Anything else on what she can do?"

"A couple of things, not much." Tony pulls out his phone and locates the files he retrieved. "She was genetically altered as a fetus, she doesn't even have any true parents because Hydra created her in their lab."

Tony has a look of disgust on his face as he continues.

"Hydra didn't even give her a name, the file refers to her as 'subject J 523512'. It also states that she is the first, and only, success of the project. They're trying to create human weapons through genetic modification, mindless soldiers with superpowers."

The two males stare at him, taking in the new information in silence.

Bruce is the one to finally break the silence.

"Do the others know already?"

"Yeah, I told everyone earlier in an unofficial meeting, came here to check on her and let you know as well."

Tony's statement returns their attention to the figure in the bed.

He sighs softly, the girl was truly all alone and it tugged at his heart to know that she had had no real family. He resolved then that he would try to be like a father for her, seeing as she had never really had one.

"I hope she wakes up soon."

With that, Tony left to update the others, not that there was much to tell.

Steve and Bruce went back to quietly monitoring the unconscious girl.

Girl's POV

So I've been asleep for close to a day. I wonder who these people are?

My thoughts are in turmoil, the conversation I heard raising more questions than it answered.

What do they want from me? How do they know about my life? Who is this 'Fury' guy and why does he want to interrogate me?

The last question sends a spike of fear through my heart, causing it to speed up slightly which the monitor picks up on.

As the beeping quickens I can hear one of the men from behind the wall talking quickly, almost excitedly.

"There's been a change, she might be waking up. Get everyone down here. Now!"

My heart rate increases more, fear only now finding purchase within me.

What is going to happen to me?
