I sat silently in the corner of my room, listening for the sound of footsteps that would signal the start to my day. The space around me is bare, void of personality, there is only a small cot in the corner to show that someone lives here. The worn mattress is covered with a thin, threadbare blanket, barely enough to ward off the chill on cold nights. The only other thing in the small room is a chain connected on one end to a clasp on the wall while the opposite end is attached to a shackle around my ankle. The cool metal circling my leg keeps me grounded in reality.

I have lived in this room for 17 years, my entire life. I don't have any parents, I was conceived using a donar egg and sperm and I was developed in a machine by an organization called Hydra. I am, quite literally, a test tube baby. But I was never told this, I figured it out eventually on my own through observations and eavesdropping when the scientists didn't think I was listening.

I have not had a pleasant life, far from it. Hydra is trying to make human weapons, I am one of their first successful attempts. My days are filled with tests and training. I wake up in the morning and a scientist releases me from my shackle, though not before cuffing my hands in front of me. I am brought into a lab where they take blood samples and inject me with serums, making sure I am still healthy even though they checked the previous day. I am given a thin slice of bread and a glass of water for breakfast before I am taken to a small gym area to train. Hydra makes me do both physical and mental training for the rest of the day, with a small break for food and water. By nighttime, I am exhausted.

I attempted to escape once, I was 14, almost 15. I didn't make it far before I was caught.

That's the day I lost my innocence, the day I lost all hope for my future.

The next day they took my voice.

They broke me, I am beyond repair. I'm not living, I'm just surviving.

My thoughts snap back to the present, the door slowly opening, I had not realized that I had allowed my mind to wander so far.

I take a deep breath, preparing myself for the day ahead. The door opens further, my eyes widen slightly in shock as I finally see who's standing there.

Then the fear sets in.

Question: If you could have any superpower, which superpower would you want and why?
I would definitely want the ability to shape shift, it basically gives you all the powers based in what you turn into, also I would love to just exist as a cat randomly during the day ☺️
