Girl's POV

"Guys, I found one."

The intimidating figure speaks into what I can only assume is a radio of some kind, I can feel her looking me over and my fear increases. I don't know why she's here, she could have been sent to kill me for all I know.

I don't want to die.

Death is the one thing I fear most, even more than what my future was just a little while ago. I may not be living but I still have life, I'm not ready to let that go.

"It's ok."

I focus my gaze at the soft tone of her voice.

"It's ok, we're here to rescue you. You don't have to be afraid."

I watch as she slowly steps into the room, seeming distracted for a moment by a soft murmuring I can barely hear. Probably a response to her earlier communication.

"Thanks Cap."

I jump at the sudden loudness of her voice. I watch her warily as she turns her attention back to me.

"That was just my friend, he's going to help me get you out of here. Can you tell me your name?"

The question makes me pause, I can't tell her my name for a couple of reasons. I don't have a name, and even if I did, Hydra made sure I could never speak again.

So I slowly shake my head 'no'.

"Why not?"

I have no way of telling her that I don't have a name so I decide to try to convey that I'm mute. I point to my neck and shake my head again, watching her face as she quickly realizes.

"You can't speak?"

I nod, relaxing slightly as she doesn't seem to want to kill me, she hasn't come any closer after her initial entrance.

"Do you know how to sign?"

I consider myself lucky that one of the scientists took a bit of time to teach me the alphabet and a few words in sign, none of the others cared enough to even bother with trying.

I nod, attempting to remember what I was taught two years ago.

Yes.

I stop my moving my head, I don't know enough to tell her what I want to, so I settle for trying to get my point across a different way.

No?

I hesitate slightly, I don't think any of the other words I know will be helpful in this situation.

"It's ok, you don't have to know all of it, how much do you know?"

She asks the question just before her attention shifts slightly again, I can hear more murmurs from her radio-thing.

I quickly count in my head the words I know, only 8. I hold up 8 fingers for her to see.

"8 words?"

I nod again, grateful that she is smart enough to understand what I am trying to say. I also know the alphabet and some numbers so I sign that too.

A, B, C, 1, 2, 3, - I don't want to fumble through the entire thing so I wave my hand like to continue before I sign the last one - 10.

"So you know the alphabet and numbers 1 to 10?"

My hands are getting tired so I just nod again, the interaction is draining more energy from me than I thought it would.
