Dream in pregnant with Palette when he is attacked, his self is merged with an unborn baby that would have been soul born. The body is human, the human could be Harry Potter or one of the goggle boys from Digimon for example. The human new self doesn't remember, they'd need a trigger to remember or even return to there true self.
Ink and the others know hes still alive, as Nightmare says he feels him alive.
While human his true self/body is in hiatus, the pregnancy paused and not detectable in the human self. Not that Dream knows this, as the small part of him that remembers thinks the issue killed the pregnancy.
this would be of course an Dream/Ink pairing, at leass long enough for Dream to get preggers. lol
