Due to how Dream and Nightmare were 'born,' when Palette was born he actually a twin.
Ink being the nimrod he was, saw the other twin as the future 'dark' twin and threw him into the void and told Dream he died.
Dream is hurt a child dies, but moves forward raising Palette with love.
Adding The Roller to Palettes name, as Roller was suppose to be his twins name.
Thing is, the twins share a soul between them and the twin lived.
Fate fishes Roller from the void, and plunks him into the past to be the Destroyer.
Dream is not impressed when he finds out the truth.
Palette just thinks his twin is cool.
Error... crashes when he realized this makes Ink his father.
