This..is a very disturbing idea
Before Nightmare could eat the apples, Dream killed him.
Apparently Dream is insane, even even eats Nightmares apple shaped soul and then eats all the apples.
He then becomes known as Soul Eater, where AU's fear him attacking there AU to eat there souls.
Later it is found out that the villager's in there hatred of Nightmare, somehow broke the link between the twins and also Dreams link to the tree driving him insane.
