Nighttime

A/N: This is one of the shorter ones but it's really fluffy nonetheless and I hold it close to my heart<3 Enjoy! x

Turning around for the hundredth time that night, I just didn't seem to get any sleep despite how tired I was.
Was it the complex investigation? There was so much on my mind right now...

Everyone involved in the case was very stressed at the moment. Who currently worried me the most was L. It was not only the fact that he nearly never slept, it was not only his own state- but also my relation to him. It had already become evident to all members that L and I got along very well- but after a while, I had started to develop strong feelings for him.

Lost in thought, I decided to throw over a coat and wander through the head quarters.
When I arrived at the ground level, I was not surprised to see that L was still awake.

"Oh, ~. Why aren't you asleep?", he asked worriedly.

"My brain can't seem to turn off."

"I see. Would it comfort you if I accompanied you?"

I blushed.
"How do you mean?"

"We could go to my level in this building and spend some time." After a while of silence, he continued after noticing the ambiguity. "I don't mean it that way."

"I would've never thought so either", I giggled despite my tiredness.
"Of course I want to spend some time with you. Let's go!"

"It's such a beautiful movie. I could watch it all over again...", I sighed happily as 'Carrying You' was playing in the background.

"Mhm. You are tired."

"Yes...", I yawned.

"Do you want me to leave?"

My eyes widened.
"Please don't go yet, L. I enjoy your presence very much. Please stay with me for a little while longer at least."

A gentle smile wandered across his lips.

While we still sat on the sofa with a blanket wrapped around us, I rested my head on his shoulder.
My heart was still fluttering. I had never felt so at peace before...
Before I knew it, my eyelids were slowly starting to fall until I entirely drifted away to the most beautiful of dreams.

~the next morning~

I was awakened by the sunlight streaming through the windows. Why couldn't I sleep a bit longer...
Before I opened my eyes, I felt the sofa beneath me being a bit softer than yesterday. Only that it wasn't the sofa.
When I opened my eyes, I discovered that I had fallen asleep on L.

Noticing that he had his arms wrapped around me, I didn't dare to let go off him.
I blushed.
He looks like an angel when sleeping.
And L is so comfortable too... it's nicer than any way of falling asleep I could have ever imagined...

I lowered my head again and rested it on his chest.
Quietly, I could hear his heart beating steadily. Why did it give me so much comfort?

After a while, I could suddenly hear it getting quicker.
As I lifted my head to look upon L's face, I discovered that he had woken up.

For a moment, L just seemed frozen, but then his pale skin turned to a blushy pink and his lips curled into a smile.

"Good morning!"

"Good morning... I have never gotten such great sleep in my life."

I giggled.

Now L's face turned serious again.
"I'm serious."

"Then we should sleep like this more often", I suggested.

Although, L, I love you so much... if you do not feel the same, it will be even more effective to break my heart later on..., I thought.

L nodded.
"We should probably go downstairs soon now though."

"What time is it?"

"9 am", L replied as he looked at the clock on the wall behind me.

"9 AM?! We need to go, uh- I need to get changed, we probably shouldn't go downstairs at the same time anyway. If we're both late and return at the same time, well, you know what the others will think-"

"I understand", he smiled.

"One last thing...", I added as I stood up and turned around to face him blushingly.

"Yes?"

"I felt so at peace waking up by your side, L..."
