Power out

A storm was howling outside when I got distracted during the Kira investigation.
I haven't experienced such a strong one before... did L ensure our safety in such a case?, I thought.

Suddenly, a message from Watari on my computer made me jump.
"L inquires to speak to you, Miss."

After having regained my tranquility, I nodded before leaving the others behind, wondering what it was that L wanted from me.

L's apartment complex in his skyscraper was very different from the others. It was not more luxurious or much larger in any way, but the entrance was secured many times- there were three different doors and even more security checks I had to undergo to be able to enter.

"You wanted to see me?"

"Yes. Please approach me. This room might be locked and not under surveillance but in doubt, we still should not discuss the following loudly", L forewarned me as he slouched down on a chair.

I frowned. What did L want to discuss with me?

"There is something I need your opinion on before I ask Light", L said as he removed the coating of a candy cane with his fingertips.

"Mhm?"

"There are two options. Either Light- I mean Kira- intentionally gave away his power to another individual, or a supernatural force having control over said power did so."

L turned towards me to observe my short thought process. I heard the storm outside getting louder.

"I am certain it is option one."

"I agree."

"What do we do now?"

"Good question. In any case, we should-"

The sound of a humming and growling suddenly interrupted L. More than that- the light had shut out completely.
The storm had finally overworked the electricity system of the region.

L and I stared at each other.

"I have never seen such an extreme storm! But I am sure it won't be a problem, L?"

I saw him lead a thumb up to his lips in silence.

"Actually..."

"L...?"

"We are locked inside this complex now, and if the electricity system of this part of Tokyo is currently disrupted, there is nothing we can do but wait."

I gasped at this revelation. L- who had secured the entrances of this skyscraper so well- had not prepared it for common natural catastrophes??

L took a phone off the TV desk and lifted it up to his ear after dialing a number.

"Mister Yagami, is everything alright down there?"

"I would not say that. The entrances are locked, all monitors and the lighting has gone out, it is a little difficult to stay orientated, so far everyone went to the rooms of this level that abut the windows."

"Good. The energy should be back soon, but with the impact of a storm of this extent, it might take a day."

I went white. "A DAY?!"

L looked at me as he demonstrated me to remain silent.
"Yes. Unfortunately, ~ and I are locked into my complex of this building. It is secured as the entrances. We will be alright. I apologise for all of this."

"It is not your fault, Ryuzaki. I simply hope the energy will be back soon. We will not be able to continue investigating on this case properly until it does."
