it was a perfectly clear night. they laid in the grass, side by side.
"did you know humans share fifty percent of their dna with bananas?" she didn't take her eyes off the sky. he didn't take his off her.
"does that mean when you eat a banana, it's half cannibalism?" she laughed, the sound like the twinkling stars above them.
"i guess so." she paused. "it's an odd thought."
"what is?"
"that one of the most complex life forms on the earth share half of it's dna with a bright yellow fruit."
"well, everything that's in the human body is also found in the dirt. so humans also share their chemical makeup with something that's always stepped on." she looked at him curiously.
"so humans could be walking on a body that's been decomposed and not even know it?" he nodded.
"technically, yeah. i guess so." she turned back to the sky.
"what an odd thought."
"an odd thought indeed."
