he isn't with her, at least not mentally. he's right beside her, but he's not there.
she waits, knowing he needed the time to open up.
"you . . . you're not gonna, like — you're not going to abandon me, are you?" he swallowed nervously as she whipped her head to look at him. "i mean, i know you promised you wouldn't but . . ." he trailed off. she knew what he was thinking.
she turned herself fully to look at him, taking his face in her hands and looking him in the eye. "we're in this together. good times or bad, i will never, ever, leave you. you're stuck with me until the day we die, possibly even after." she paused as he let out a watery laugh, tears streaming down his face. she let him cry. "i love you, more than you will ever know. you mean everything to me. i'm not leaving you if i have anything to do with it."
he pulled her into a hug and silently cried into her shoulder.
"thank you."
"there's no need to thank me, i only spoke the truth." he shook his head.
"thank you for everything." she smiled.
"no, thank you."
