Lennae woke up in the middle of the night. She looked around, again, everything looked bigger. She looked down and saw paws. “Crud,” she said, realizing this was what had happened the night before. She was back in the forest. She saw a clearing and then everything was gone.

She awoke, back in her bed. “Will this keep happening?” she wondered aloud. Then she noticed she was getting a strange look from a girl near-by. “Bad dream,” Lennae said.

“I understand,” the girl said. She turned back to the book that was in her lap.

Lennae went outside. She looked around to see what the date was. She found a calendar that said it was Friday, June 5. Her birthday was just a week away! She hoped this year she could have a happy birthday. Her recent experiences with birthdays were not ones she wanted to remember.

She saw a familiar face. “Hey Lennae. Guess what, the next competition is on June 12!” Rebecca said happily. “We are playing soccer.”

Lennae tried to keep a happy face. Soccer was her least favorite sport. “Great,” Lennae said with the most enthusiasm that she could.

Next Friday arrived way too quickly. Lennae groaned inwardly when they announced that there was only half an hour left before the game. This was going to be the worst birthday ever.

She followed some other girls from her cabin to a supply cabin. They found everything they needed to get ready for the game. There was only one problem with the shoes; they were all one-size. Lennae tried one pair on and they instantly fit. She looked down in awe. ‘I must be confused because I keep seeing the strangest things that are impossible. One thing, people seem to turn to animals. Second thing, those shoes shouldn’t have fit me, they were like size eighteen,’ she thought.

She headed out to the field with her team. They were playing the green team. She looked across from where her team stood. Her team was made up of 10-13 year olds. The other team seemed to be made up of 12-14 year olds.

“We are so going to win,” Lennae heard someone say. She agreed with that person. Her team seemed to have more experience than the other.

“Ok, Rebecca, Britney, and Mia play forwards..." said the team captain, saying who was playing what position. She finally heard her name,”Lennae is goalie.”

With that everyone hurried to their position. She groaned to herself and headed to her position. All of a sudden, there were animals on the field. She looked at the others and they didn’t seem to care, in fact they looked happy that there were animals.

Lennae sat down and when she jumped up to block the ball from making it in the goal she saw almost everyone stop. “Lennae?” she heard Rebecca say from somewhere in the crowd.

She looked down and saw pink paws. “Whoa,” she mewed. “Can this be?” Lennae hoped someone understood her.

She saw a few nods in the crowd. Lennae fell over in shock. Someone rushed to help her. The next few moments went by in a blur. At last, she found herself leaning against the net. Around her, people were whispering in excitement and confusion.
