Celebrating a birthday in a long distance friendship can be difficult, especially when you're hella broke. You can't be there to throw them a kick ass party, or to hug them on there special day, or to even see their amazing smile as they celebrate another year of life.

So, what do you do when it's your best friend's birthday, you live thousands of miles away, and you're too broke to afford a plane ticket? Write a (hopefully) awesome chapter for their awesome characters.

Before this chapter starts, I'd like to wish an extremely happy birthday to my best friend, hdnprplflwrs !! You deserve the world, but I'm on a budget, so here's a virtual hug. I love you the mostest evvvveeeerrrr and sixteen better treat you like the motherfvcking queen you are <3

Before we get started, I feel as though you all should know that I originally had a completely different idea for this chapter. But then I took a nap and had a dream where Aurora punched Captain America in the face, so here's this chapter instead.

Also, I am completely aware that there is a character known as the Dark Knight in the DC universe. However, for the sake of this chapter, please bare with me and keep that character out of mind.

Enjoy :)

Saoirse Stark paces the meeting room, beyond frustrated as the team, once again, spirals out of her control.

The Avengers had been tipped off to the fact that HYDRA was planning on using their most skilled duo - the Winter Soldier and his partner, the Dark Knight - to assassinate the president of the United States at a press conference the next day. Unfortunately, neither of the team's usual leaders are in their right state of mind, leaving everything in disarray and chaos.

Having recently learned both of the assassins' true identities, Aurora Rogers and Saoirse are, to say the least, frazzled.

During a recent scuffle involving the Winter Soldier, Aurora discovered that he's none other than Jack Barnes, a close friend of hers she believed to have died during the second world war. When top secret files were released for the world to see that same day, it came to Saoirse's attention that the Dark Knight just so happens to be Jonah Marais, a man she had a brief relationship with during their college years.

"We need to focus!" Avery Barton snaps, firing an arrow into the center of the mahogany table to catch everyone's attention. Silence is quick to ensue, all eyes falling on the woman as she takes charge. "We have twelve hours to come up with a game plan, so let's get down to business. Now, ased on what we know, the Winter Soldier-"

"Is a little bitch," Aurora chimes in, shoving a handful of Cheez-its into her mouth nonchalantly.

"I was actually going to say he's the world's most dangerous assassin."

"Okay, and?" The brunette raises a dubious eyebrow. "He's still the same weak ass bitch that took my Cheez-its in 1943."

"They had Cheez-its back then?" Zach Banner questions, earning a laugh from Corbyn Parker.

"Fuck you, Banner."

"The president is going to die and that's going to be our fault," Ramona Romanoff groans, rubbing her temples. "I say we accept our losses and go take a nap. Obama can go back to being president."

"One; that's not how presidency works," Avery explains, looking on the verge of a meltdown. "And two; we can not do that."

"Why not?" Aurora counters. "I'd rather nap than wear that uncomfortable suit all day."

"Your suit is literally the American flag," Avery argues. "You above all people should be the most worried about government threats!"

"Full offense, but the government can suck my dick."

"Whoa!" Thor Seavey cuts in. "There is a child present!"

"I'm more concerned about the fact that, as far as we know, she doesn't have a dick."

Saoirse scans the crowded room, thoroughly examining each person that enters. Anxious reporters take up the entirety of the first few rows in the press room, along with government officials claiming the rest of the available seats. The podium where the president will be standing in less than three minutes is surrounded by several body guards.

The Avengers, dressed in business clothing so as not to attract extra unwanted attention, are stationed in different parts of the White House. Aurora is on the opposite side of the press room, Corbyn and Ramona are roaming the halls, Thor and Zach are standing guard outside the front entrance, and Avery remains vigilant on the roof.

"Barnes is heading towards the front entrance and Marais is at the back," Avery speaks into her earpiece, alerting the others. "I landed a shot on Marais, but it didn't even slow him down."

Making eye contact with her teammate, Saoirse gives the briefest of nods before sprinting out of the room. Aurora remains in position, knowing the civilians still need to be protected.

"Now might be a good time for the other guy to make an appearance," she hears Thor tell Zach in her earpiece, followed by a crackle of electricity.

"You think I'm not trying?" Zach huffs.

The woman doesn't hear the rest of their conversation, turning her earpiece off as she continues to sprint down the hallways. Finding the back entrance, she all but falls through the doors, briefly wondering where Corbyn and Ramona are as she calls her suit to her.

Lush greenery, including rather talk bushes and trees, take up the majority of the lawn, making it difficult to search for the assassin.

"FRIDAY, scan for signs of life," she orders her AI."

"That's not necessary," an all too familiar voice calls out as a figure jumps down from a tree, twirling one of Avery's electric arrows in one hand. "Long time, no see, Stark."

Saoirse couldn't deny that seeing the man, despite the years that have gone by since their abrupt ending, caused something to stir inside her chest. She truly didn't want to hurt him, but her job comes first.

"Not long enough," Saoirse retorts, the repulsor in her left hand charging.

"Ouch," Jonah sighs, acting as though her remark hurt his heart. "That hurts, especially coming from you."

"Why are you doing this, Jo?" The woman changes the subject, hoping to distract him in order to give others time to show up, so, if it comes to it, she won't have to be the one to hurt him. And, in all honesty, she also truly was curious. "What happened to the guy that wanted to be a veterinarian, the guy that cries over cartoons, and the guy that would impulsively adopt every animal he saw? Because you're certainly not the same one."

"College causes debt when you're not a billionaire," he admits with a nonchalant shrug of his shoulders. "And this job pays well. There aren't a lot of jobs that can cover all the costs of medical school in under five years."

The mask of Saoirse's suit flies up as she lowers her hand, an incredulous look crossing her features.

"So you're telling me," she begins slowly, taking a deep breath. "THAT YOU ARE WILLINGLY MURDERING PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE COLLEGE DEBT?!"

"Yeah, that basically sums it up."
