Chapter 5: Everybody Has A Past

It was Christmas Peyton volunteered to work to her parents dismay. But for Peyton Christmas time was just another day for her. She dreaded it for the past two years.

Bucky was in Brooklyn with his family. He was scheduled to be on call so he kept his beeper and phone on loud. He was in the middle of being attacked by the kids cause as his mom says he was like a big kid himself even at 32.

He felt his pager going off,"hold on guys Uncle James has to check his phone." He said as he got up and went into the kitchen.

He called the page to find out what was the emergency. He came back out of the kitchen "Sorry mom I have to go." He said

"It's okay honey I understand you have a job." Winnie said

"Love you both." He said as he picked up a two year old red headed girl with curly pigtails.

"Say bye to grandma and grandpa Tinleigh." He said

Winnie and James hugged their granddaughter. Bucky dropped his daughter off at his ex wife's house then headed to the hospital.

He did his consult as he was coming up on the surgery floor. He saw Peyton filling out her surgery notes.

"Hey shouldn't you be at home or is all your family in LA." He said

"No my family is here. I just rather not be at home. Im perfectly content working." She said

"Peyton.." he said

"No..I rather not talk about it." She said as she closed the chart.

Bucky did his surgery updated the family. He found Peyton working the ER. He leaned against the nurse's desk .

"Peyton.." he said

She looked up at him "I said I don't want to talk about it." She said as she was about to walk off.

He grabbed her wrist he pulled her to him. She ended up standing with her legs on either side of his.

"I don't know what Natasha has filled your pretty head with about me. But let me tell me you somethings about me that she has apparently failed to mention to you Peyton." Bucky said

She looked at him confused.

"The morning we met where I got mad cause you bumped my surgery. The reason why I was pissed off wasn't because of no morning sex. I have a two year old daughter named Tenleigh Faith. She's my whole world Peyton. I had spent my whole week of vacation with my family and her in Florida at Disney World for her birthday. It was her birthday that day if I had known my surgery was bumped I could of had more time with her on her birthday. But no I took her to her mother's house that morning. I am divorced been that way for three years cause we found out about her after we filed. The player Bucky Barnes that Nat had filled your head with. Was me in high school and college. I met my now ex wife the last year of medical school and got married a year later. Divorced last year of residency. And there are other things that my friends don't know about. Everybody has a past baby sometimes its good and sometimes its bad." He said

"James..Im glad that you told me all this. But I just I can't open up okay? But I'm sorry about snapping at you and for my comments that morning." She said as she walked away.

He sighed as he looked down. He ended up staying at the hospital. Peyton worked all day and night in the ER.

The next morning Bucky was drinking coffee with the guys when Natasha came in. Bucky threw his muffin away shooting daggers at her. She followed him out "Why are you acting like you are pissed at me?" She said

"Because I am. I spent the last 24 hours working with Peyton. She was here all day and night. I tried to get her to talk to me and she flat out refused. I opened up to her about why I was mad the day we met. And she still refused to open up. You seem to think that I'm still the same ol' Bucky Barnes and Im not." He said as he walked away.

Steve walked out when he heard Bucky yelling at his wife. "Nat..what did you do to make him snap?" Sam said as he came out.

"He likes Peyton.." she whispered

"Yeah he does. They may bump heads but he likes her. And all he wants is for her to let him in and she won't. Bucky isn't who he use to be Nat. Tenleigh changed him the divorced changed him. It didn't feel good when he came home to find Katie in bed with his cousin." Sam said

She looked down.

Peyton was at the cemetery crying as she sat in the snow as she sat at her daughter's grave. She placed pink roses and a pink bear on her grave then bawled as she drove home.
