A few days later Peyton came in with her hair in two french braids. She came into the conference room where all the department heads and attendings were. Chief Dr Fury had let them all know earlier in the week that was a meeting on Friday.
They all grabbed either a donut or a muffin and a cup of coffee. Fury walked in.
"Good morning.." he said
They mumbled out a morning. "So before we start with the real reason why I have called this meeting. I would like to congratulate a few of you." He said as he held up NY's Medical Journal.
"It seems that some of you have made NYU hospital look good. And earned yourself a profile in the NY's medical journal for being the top surgeon. Let's start with Dr James Barnes for Neurosurgery, Dr Peyton Roberts of Pediatrics, Dr Wanda Maximoff-Barton for Cardio Dr Tony Stark in Plastics and Dr Natasha Romanoff-Rogers for General. Let's give them a hand." Fury said
The room erupted in applause. "Okay now that I have boosted egos. Every year we host a charity ball for a charity that is deeply involved with the hospital rather it be for a board member's charity foundation that they founded or any other medical foundation that we feel to donate to. This year two of our board members have a charity that they deeply involved in. And I'm gonna let them talk so I give the floor to Dr Johnathan Baylor and his wife Dr Brianna Thomas-Baylor." Fury said
Peyton swallowed hard as she looked to Natasha sitting beside her. Natasha squeezed her hand "breathe" she mouthed.
"Good morning Im Dr Brianna Thomas-Baylor. We are the founders of the Baylor Foundation that my husband's family founded after his brother became ill with Kasawki disease when he was little. Next month the Saturday of Feb 20th we will be hosting a ball for the charity. We would like for everyone that is not scheduled to work to be in attendance . If you are scheduled to be on call you are still to attend the ball. Make sure your interns and residents know as well. That is all we have to say for now." She said
They all stood up and started to walk out. Peyton was stopped by Brianna. "So you high tailed back home. And already making a name for yourself I see. Congrats I'll be sure to let my son know." She said
"Brianna we aren't married anymore. I left LA to come home where I belong. So if you don't mind I have a surgery to do." Peyton said as she walked out.
Peyton was performing a surgery on little boy who was climbing a tree and broke his arm in three different places. She set his bones then stitched him up. And the whole time she was doing her surgery Brianna and John were watching.
She sent him to recovery did her notes and updated his family. She was checking her other post opts when John stopped her. "So..now you can't hide in an OR I checked the board."
She rolled her eyes "Like I told your wife John. I don't have to answer to you or her or Lincoln. He made his mistakes I filed for divorce. I decided to leave and not come back. He didn't try and stop me." She said
John shook his head "So he cheated Peyton. I have cheated on my wife several times. Men have urges and sometimes we can't control them."
"Im done with this conversation" she said as she walked off. Carol paged her so she went to the oncology floor.
"Hey tough day?" Carol said
"Yeah you could say that. What's up?" She said
"You remember Trixie Jones?" Carol said
"Yeah why?" She said as she took her scans.
"I did those just a few minutes ago. She came in with her mother for her scans. She's been in remission for three months now P. And look it's back and I don't know how bad it is till you get in there." Carol said
Peyton looked at it. "Get me an OR booked. Preferably not bumping Barnes." She said
Carol got it booked for her then they informed Mrs Jones. Peyton was fixing her surgical gown when she felt someone tie her mask.
She turned to see Bucky. "Hey.." she said
He smiled "God those deep green eyes darlin.But um are you okay?"
"No not really no. I just want to get this day over with." She said
"Nat told me that the Baylors are your in laws. I was wondering why you started to freak out when you seen them." He said
She smiled and said "yeah."
"We are still on for tonight?" He said
"Yeah..dinner and beer at your place sounds good right about now." She said
"Dr Barnes we are ready for you." A nurse said
"Thank you Kelly" he said
"See you later darlin" he said as he walked to his OR.
She went into her OR and scrubbed in. She started up her surgery "oh dear god..Dr Danvers.." she said
Carol walked over to her and she said "holy cow..it has spread agressively.."
"So it has spread from her pancreas her liver and spleen." Peyton said
"Close her up Dr Roberts." Carol said
Peyton started to close her up as she fought tears. She got scrubbed out and did her notes. Brianna walked over to her "Peyton.."
"For the love of God just leave me alone. I don't want your son back okay. So stop pushing now if you don't mind I have a god damn job to do." Peyton said as she went to find Carol.
Thirty minutes later Bucky found Peyton crying in a on call room.
"Hey..shh its okay." He whispered as he wrapped his arm around her.
She looked up at him. "If you need me to help with anything I can help. And if dumbass does show his face Im good at making exes jealous." He said
She let out a laugh.
They ended up laying down and he held her till she fell asleep. He set an alarm since he had another surgery in two hours and he fell asleep.
