It had been two weeks since Lincoln's visit. And Peyton for the last two weeks pushed everyone away. It was the morning of Bucky's birthday.
Peyton was in her office when she got a phone call from the transplat office. "Hello Dr Roberts.' She said
"Good morning Dr Roberts this Callie Thomas from the transplant office. I was calling to let you know that we have left kidney at Boston Mass Hospital. It is healthy from a 12 year old girl. So they know you are coming." The lady said
,"thanks Im on my way." Peyton said
She ran out of her office. "Ellie Mae get me a OR booked and prepped for a transplat and let Kaylee Barnes' family know that we are doing the surgery today. And Dr Millie Taylor you are with me. Lets go." Peyton demanded as she got a cooler and her jacket on.
She and her resident Dr Taylor arrived at the hospital. She got her kidney and put it in the cooler. They got back on the plane and landed back at NYU.
Kaylee was prepped and ready for her when she landed. She cut her open and placed kidney in her. She made sure she had it hooked in to all the nerves right.
"Okay now we wait." Peyton said
"For what exactly Dr Roberts." Millie said
"For that." She pointed to the kidney turning pink.
"What does that mean do any of you know?" Peyton said
They all looked at her. "It means that ..." she said as she checked the pee bag. "We have a live functioning kidney cause she filled the bag" she said.
She stitched her up and scrubbed out. She was doing her notes before she updated the family. Natasha came over to her.
"Hey where have been?" She said
"Working." She said
"Peyton don't do this. Don't go back down this road. He was an ass he didn't care about you. All he cared about was getting his rocks off with other girls. Lincoln is a sorry excuse of a husband and father. That last part was proved 3 years ago. Don't you blame yourself for what happened to Paisley do you understand me?" Natasha said not realizing Bucky was behind her with Steve and Sam.
"Nat but I .." Peyton said
"No all you did was go christmas shopping. You know what you should come tonight its Bucky's birthday we going to the bar." Natasha said
"No that's okay. Im sure he doesn't want me there. I overheard that he is seeing someone." She said with tears welling then a stray tear rolled.
She wiped it and said "I have to go update my patient's family." And she walked off.
Bucky was about to talk to Nat but he seen what surgery she erased "K Barnes Kid. Transplant."
He shook his head and walked over to where his family was. He walked up behind her just as she said.
"It went great. She's in recovery now she peed a full bag so its working." Peyton said
"Thanks Dr Roberts" Rebecca said
"Welcome" she said then she walked off just as Bucky was about to say something.
He looked down then he went up to Kaylee's room with his family. Bucky kept watching the door that night at the bar.
Peyton misheard what he said. He made a mistsake and got drunk and slept with his ex wife. But she missed that part of the conversation.
"She's not coming Buck." Nat said
"Nat ... who is Paisley?" He said
Nat said "How did you know that name?"
"I was standing behind you when you were talking to her earlier." He said
They all looked down. Wanda swallowed hard "forgive me Peyton" she whispered.
She did a shot. "Paisley was her daughter" Peggy said
"Was?" He said confused.
"3 years ago two days before Christmas Peyton left their 4 month old daughter with Lincoln. They were staying at her parents house for the holidays. She left to some last minute shopping with her parents." Carol said
"And two hours later when she came home she found him screwing her 18 year old sister. And she went to check on Paisley. Paisley had just learned how to roll over. Paisley wouldn't wake up she died from SIDS. She suffocated cause of the crib bumper. She had tear stains where she cried cause of her dirty diaper." Natasha said
Bucky felt tears welling and looked down.
"I have to go." He whispered.
"Buck" Steve said
Bucky got in his car and wiped tears. He drove over to Peyton's place he knocked on her door.
"Peyton!! Open up!" He yelled
She opened the door and he hugged her. "James..what are you doing here?" She whispered.
He lifted her chin. "I don't have a girlfriend. I got drunk cause you pushed me away and I slept with my ex wife. And baby I wish so badly you told me about Paisley just so I had even a bigger reason to punch that fucking idiot." He said
She looked at him confused. "I overheard your conversation with Nat this morning. They all just filled in the blanks for me. Baby look at me it is not your fault. He is the idiot that decided to not be a good dad." He said
She looked down. "But I left her.." she said
"So you had no idea that he would be selfish baby. Now get your shoes on cause I would like for you to join me back at my birthday party." He said
She slipped on her shoes and followed him out to the car. "By the way you did amazing today according to Natasha with Kaylee's surgery. Thank you for helping her.' He said
"Welcome" she said
They arrived at the bar a few minutes later. They had cake and burgers and lots of tequila.
