It had been two weeks since that day. Bucky kept to himself he worked his schedule and spent time with Tenleigh. He gave hope on winning Peyton's heart.
Bucky was coming out of a surgery when he was paged downstairs. He walked in to see his sister Rebecca.
"Becca?" He said confused
"Um it's um Kaylee. She's been throwing up all night." Becca said
He went into the room to see a dark haired blue eyed girl. She was about to turn 14 in a month. He went to the nurse's station. "Um Norah page Dr Roberts no else it has to be her." He said
"Dr Barnes Dr Roberts has the day off." Norah said
Bucky pulled out his cellphone and called Peyton as he walked away. He went into a janitor's closet as he paced.
"H-hello Dr Roberts" she said half asleep.
"Peyton.." Bucky said
"Who is this?" She said as she sat up
"Its James. I need you to come in please. Its an emergency and I need you.." he said
"James whats wrong." She said
"Listen to me please..I know you hate me but I just need you to come in. I swear I will make it up to you somehow cause I know it's your day off. But I can't let anyone else work this case." He said
"James?." She said
"Please." He said almost begging.
"Okay." She said
She pulled her scrubs and shoes on. She tossed her red hair in a messy bun and ran to her car. She walked into the ER and got herself clocked in. She found Bucky pacing in the waiting room.
"James.." she said
He looked up "You remember when I said I have things that nobody else knows about?"
"Yeah." He said
With a shaky voice "I have another daughter that I had at 17 with my first girlfriend. My sister Rebecca adopted her when her mother didn't want to keep her. So I asked my sister to keep her for me she's 13 and in room #1."
"Okay.." she said
She got the chart for Norah and went into the room. "Hi I'm Dr Peyton Roberts what is going on with this princess today?"
"Hi Dr Roberts Im Rebecca Johns. This Kaylee Barnes. She's been sick for the last 24 hours. She has been puking and complaining of stomach pains." Rebecca said
"Okay Kaylee sweetie can I see your stomach." She said
She shook her head yes and lifted her shirt. "Tell me when it hurts sweetheart." She said
Peyton started to feel around Kaylee started to wimper. "Um how is her appetite?"
"Not great lately. And she has had a fever for the last several days. She had been complaining of stomach pains. I just thought she was about to start her period till she started to puke last night." Becca said
"Okay I have a prognosis. But before I tell you that. I want to be sure that I'm right so do you mind if I do some exploratory surgery?" Peyton said
"No not at all." Becca said
"Okay good. Norah will bring you a consent form while I get my OR ready." Peyton said then she walked out.
She started to fill out the chart and let Norah know what she needed. She felt eyes on her she looked to her right. "James.. you know that unless Becca says it is okay. I cant discuss the case or my theory." She said
He hugged her. "Thank you. Please dont tell the others she is mine. They don't know that I got Piper pregnant or why she left after half way through junior. She was pissed at me and moved away after she was born" he whispered in her ear.
She tapped his arms "Welcome. Now I have a job to do." When she saw the OR team wheeling her out towards the elevator.
She went up with her and took a deep breathe. She got scrubbed in she opened her up. She saw her kidneys and said "oh sweet baby ..she pulled out her left one that was almost dead. And checked the other one."
"Put her on the transplant list for a left kidney." She said as she stitched her up.
She scrubbed out filled out her notes. She found Bucky and his family in the waiting room. She swallowed hard then walked over to them.
"Hi Im Dr Roberts." She said as she introduced her self to Bucky's parents.
"Nice to meet you honey. Im Winne and this is my husband James." Winnie said
She smiled "It's nice to meet you two as well. Now Kaylee did amazing in her surgery she is in recovery now. I have had to place her on the transplant list for new left kidney. Her left kidney was failing it was dying. So her right one is still functioning normal."
"Thank you Dr Roberts. My brother was right about you. He said you would know what to do right away instead of running a bunch of tests." Becca said
She smiled at her "You are very welcome and thank you. Now this is my resident Dr Holly Baker will you please show the family to her room"
"Yes ma'am." Holly said
Holly walked off with all of them following. Except Bucky he walked over to Peyton "Peyton thank you. Um for making you work on your day off. Um would dinner and drinks be a good way to make it up to you?"
She smiled and looked down. "Yeah I do love a good steak and margarita."
"Oh really.." he said
"Yeah really. Now if you don't mind Im gonna go home and finish my nap." She said as she was about to walk off.
"Peyton..by the way. You sound sexy half asleep." He said
She smacked him "Just when I thought you weren't going to make a flirtatious remark."
"Come on darlin it's me" he said as he walked backwards.
"Bye James." She said as she kept walking.
"Nice ass darlin" he said
She just shook her head as she went to clock out. He smirked as he turned around and went upstairs to see Kaylee.
