Chapter Eighteen: Sea Monster Strikes

It's another situation this week when I'm forced to fight a monster. Except for this time I'm doing it with Lucas. It felt strange yet familiar to have him by my side as we face a sea monster ready to fight for our lives.

This monster was a hybrid monster. Imagine someone took a machine that combines animals into one strange creature and tossed in a frog, a squirrel, and a bull and that is what this thing looks like. It's skin a barf green color and covered in scales as well as horns sticking out of his head. The monster has huge bull eyes on the sides of his head that are bright red with a slitted black pupil in the center. And it's standing on two feet instead of four but they were webbed like a frog. I was sure that if my science teacher were to happen upon this thing, he'd scream in terror at the weird abomination that nature has created here.

Steam comes out of his nostrils as he breathes heavily. I didn't have to be a scientist to know that's not a sign that he's happy.

"What is this thing?" I blurted, wrinkling my nose at the smell emanating from this monster. It reminds of the smell of the Zoology classroom when we dissected frogs for a grade.

This might actually be worse than that and I recall wanting through up then too.

"It's a Hybrid Ranam. A Frog Hybrid," He responds quietly," They can breathe both below and above water. But they can't stay on land for longer than a half-hour at a time before its skin begins to dry out has to go back and breathe in the H2O."

"So you want to keep it occupied until then?" I inquired, confused at where he was going with this.

"Hopefully, we won't need thirty minutes to destroy it. " Lucas responded," I'm sure if we work together, It'll be easy pickings for us and he'll regret coming up for air."

The Hybrid Ranam scraped his feet and lowered his head in our direction. I've seen enough of the animal planet to know what's about to happen next.

"Move!" I commanded and we both leaped to the side just in time to avoid getting bulldozed by the Hybrid Ranam. It took a few moments for the monster to right itself up again and turn back towards us.

"That thing is quick." I muttered," I thought its bulk and size would slow it down."

Lucas shook his head, eyes on the beast," Sadly, no. But they do have a weakness. The Hybrid Ranam can't change directions immediately. As soon it starts to run at its target, it won't stop."

"Okay, so it can only go one direction. Forward, got it." I said.

We might be able to use that specific feature.

I spotted the beaches dumpster nearby that we had put trash in not too long ago. If I timed it right, it might just work.

Not even bothering to take the extra time to inform Lucas about my plan, I ran in the direction of the dumpster, leaving him with a simple "distract the monster".

Standing in front of the dumpster, I watched as Lucas leaps forward slashing the Hybrid Ranam's legs, causing green blood to drip out that matched its skin.

Huh, even his insides are frog-like.

Lucas avoided getting skewered by the Hybrid Ranam's horns by doing a front flip over the monster's head which if I were just a bystander I would have filmed that stunt and put it on Youtube.

Picking up a huge chunk of rock, I through it, hoping my lack of baseball capabilities won't stop me from hitting this monster. With a loud clunk, the rock collides with the back of the Hybrid Ranam's thick skull.

The Hybrid Ranam froze before turning slowly on the spot to face me, steam coming out of his nose the same way black steam comes out of a locomotive train when it's driving on full speed.
