Let me introduce myself. My name is Amiyah Stoney. And I am a transgender. My name before was Micah. I was never comfortable in my own skin.
I always felt that I was a woman inside. Growing up as a preacher kid was so hard for me. I was raised in the church all the time. My dad is a preacher. He's the pastor at Mt. Olive Holiness Church in Tampa Fl.
My mom is down to earth but my dad is so deep. I always told my mom that I didn't feel like a boy. She would tell me it's just a spell. I didn't believe that though.
I found myself playing with dolls and dressing up in my moms makeup and heels. One day my dad came in my room to get me for dinner and caught me playing dress up.
I remember my dad snatching me and beating me so bad. I cried like a little baby. When my mom came home she held me and told me it would be ok.
After that my dad made me get in all kind of sports. Of coarse I didn't last in them. I wanted to be on the dance team. My mom signed my permission slip and helped me do the dancing behind my dads back.
My parents were sports fans so they went to the football games and all. I didn't know my coach was gonna have us do a special tribute at one of the homecoming games.
So you know what that meant? I had to dance. When we got on the field and the music started I lost it. I be all into it. Not realizing that I was right in front of my parents I got down.
I had on makeup and all. When my dad saw me he raced to the field and snatched me off of it. That was one of the most embarrassing days of my life.
When I got home my dad beat me so bad until I bled. My mother and father got into it very bad. All I wanted was to be accepted by my dad.
So I was forced to act like a boy. That went on until I got in High School. After that I started coming more and more comfortable with my sexuality.
I started hanging with some friends that parents accepted them. We had a club and all. We would meet after school and talk a about our experiences.
That's when I met my best friend. Her name is Vicky Daniels. She too was a transgender. Her parents accepted her. She had already had her surgery and all. She was a senior in high school.
She had her name changed and all. I wished my parents were more like hers.
"Bitch you wearing that dress honey."
"Thanks girl. I went shopping and told my mom and dad I ain't going to school for my final year looking crazy."
"And I see you ain't either."
"And ain't."
"Period Pooh." Amiyah said snapping her fingers.
"So you still having issues with your dad?"
"Girl yes. I'm so glad this is my last year of school. Im moving out of Tampa and moving to Atlanta."
"What's in Atlanta?"
"I'm gonna start my own hair salon."
"That's wassup. If you are serious about this, I can talk to my mom and dad. They can sponsor you."
"That would be amazing girl. Would you do that for me?"
"Hell yes I would. You my number one bitch. I will look out for you no matter what girl."
"Aww Thank You Vicky."
"No biggie. Besides that way I can move with you and leave this dump."
"Bet we'll let me get to class. We still on for after school shopping?"
"And you already know bitch." Vicky said as we went our ways.
After Graduation
"You sure you got everything baby?" Renee said to Amiyah.
"Yes mama. I got everything."
"Don't forget to call me when you get to Atlanta."
"Mama I want. Please stop worrying. Vicky already there and got our apartment. And Mr. and Mrs. Daniel already got the spot of our hair salon."
"I know I just don't want nothing to happen to my baby and I ain't there."
"Mama I'm fine."
We loaded the car and I saw my dad walk out the house. He was looking all mean and shit. I was trying to beat him gone before he came out.
Blair walked out the house and folded his arms across his chest. Looking at me and mama pack my stuff, he walked over and pushed me against the car.
"You are a total disgrace to me boy. How dare you walk around here looking like a woman when I signed a birth certificate for a boy? I named you Micah not Amiyah."
"Blair don't start with her now. She has an exciting day. Don't ruin it."
"Her? He ain't no her. He's a boy. I didn't name him that so I ain't calling him that. I had 2 boys and that's what I'm calling him."
"Dad why can't you just accept me for who I am? And that's a girl. I'm Amiyah. I'm not Micah anymore."
Blair was about to slap him and Aaron caught his hand.
"Boy if you don't let my hand go."
"Man dad chill out. Just accept it. We did. If that's what he wants to be then let her be."
"Here you go with this. I didn't have a daughter so I'm not calling him one. You gonna burn in hell for this boy."
"Well daddy I love you regardless. This is who I am now. And if you can't accept this, then oh well."
"Blair go on in the house. Leave my baby alone."
Blair got heated and walked off and went back inside.
"Don't worry about it bro. I support you. Well I mean sis."
"Thank you so much A. I appreciate your support."
"Man it ain't no big deal. I love you regardless. Besides now I know where to come to get all the hoes."
My mom slapped his arm. "Don't do that in front of me boy." My mama said to Aaron.
I got in the car and headed to Atlanta. This is how my story started. Travel with me as I journey my life.
