When two forces that are meant to be together, join together, they move in harmony, and live forever. These are my thoughts. These are my words. No one is famous in this book. I wanted everything to be as pure and simple as it could possibly be. China and Cameron's relationship is far beyond Disney or any other show or movie. Cameron's and his close friends/family relationship is far beyond his immense success while he was alive. That's how it's going to be in this book.
Cameron
"Tag!" I screamed. "You're it!" I basically shoved Taj in his chest.
"I'm gonna get you Mr. Cameron!" he yelled, chasing after me. I ran as fast as my short legs could carry me.
"You have to be quicker than that!" I yelled at Taj who was struggling to keep up behind me. I was having a good time. I had turned 10 today. I was finally in the double digits. That's always a good thing right? Taj and I were up to super speed when something my mother said, caught my attention immediately.
"Cameron!" she called out to me. "China's here!" I stopped dead in my tracks. Unfortunately, Taj couldn't do the same. He ran smack dab into me, the both of us grunting as we fell over.
"Why'd you stop running so quickly?!" Taj asked as he pulled me up off the ground, rubbing the dirty out of my hair. He quickly looked over to where I was looking. "Ohhhhh I see." My eyes locked with China as she stood in the frame of our backdoor. My best friend was here. She was HERE. A smile slowly crept across both of our faces. Before I knew it, we were both darting across the backyard to each other, full speed.
We never broke eye contact during the entire run and when we finally made our way over to each other, we embraced in a very deep hug that lasted about 30 seconds before we finally let each other go. I haven't seen China since we left elementary school for the summer. She immediately left to go on vacation to Jamaica for about a month and a half. I knew that she would be back, but after spending the entire school year with her, I was sad that she was leaving me.
"I missed you Chi." I said, pulling her in for another hug.
"I missed you too Cammy." she responded, hugging me back.
"How was Jamaica?" I asked, sitting down in the grass, her sitting next to me.
"It was super hot." she said. "And it stormed every single day. I guess that's what we get for vacationing in the tropics."
"I wish I could of went with you." I said. "I could use a tan." She giggled, playfully shoving me in my arm. I smiled at her, looking over at Taj who was talking to Ty. Good. I didn't want him to wait up, thinking that we were going to be returning to our intense game of tag anytime soon.
"I think you would like it." she said. "They dance a lot out there. Sometimes it's not how kids are suppose to dance, but they like to dance."
"You know I love to dance." I say, my eyes lighting up. We spent most of our time, sitting in the grass, just catching up on all the fun things would of done this summer if she hadn't left. We still had about a month left before we had to start middle school. I was unsure of where China's parents were going to enroll her. I hope it was with me though. China and I have been in the same school since Pre-K and I would hate to be separated from my best friend now.
"Heads up!" Ty yelled. I quickly looked behind me to see a basketball falling towards the both of us. I wrapped my arm around China, raising my other arm up so that the ball would hit my hand instead and it did.
"That would of hurt.." she mumbled.
"Luckily I was here to save you." I said, smiling at her. She smiled back, rolling her eyes.
"I guess Cameron." she said. "I am just as capable."
"Okay." I shrugged. "I'll just let it hit you next time then."
"Okay." she began. "I didn't mean it like that, now." I chuckled to myself.
"Do you wanna go hang out on the swings over there?" I ask her. Her eyes widened with excitement.
"When did y'all get swings?" she asked, immediately getting on her feet.
"About a week or two ago." I say, also standing up.
"Well let's not waste time talking!" she squealed. "Let's go swing!" She grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the swing set. She sat in the middle swing while I sat on the right of her. Every-time China and I got on a swing-set it was always the a battle. We always wanted to see who could swing the highest before they got sick and she usually won. Did the sickness stop me from doing it again though? Of course not.
"You know Cam." she said as we swung. "You're my day one."
"Your day what?" I ask, confused, never hearing that lingo before.
"My day one." she repeats. "My best friend. My ride or die. My first special companion. We'll always be close no matter how far apart we are."
"Well hopefully we don't have to be far apart." I say. She nods, beating me by one swing. "Okay, I'm about to blow chunks." I let my feet slide against the ground to slow me down and got off.
"Lauryn!" I could hear Taj yell since she was the closest person to us. "Lauryn! Cam is about to throw up! Get a throw up bag!"
"No I'm not!" I yelled. "Yes I am!" followed shortly after. Running to the nearest trash can in our backyard, I let it all out.
"Gross." I could hear Ty say.
"This happens every-time." I heard China say after she also made her way off the swing. "You know you'll never beat me, Cameron."
"I will one day." I say as more throw up comes out of me. "Just.. just... just you wait."
"You... you... you about to be waiting to eat because you just threw up." Taj said, mocking me.
"Leave me alone." I said, playfully shoving him. He tackled me to the ground, messing up my hair and putting me in a head lock. "Somebody help!" I could hear them all laughing as I pretended to be hurt by Taj.
"Alright y'all." my dad said, walking out to the back. "Come eat." We all came dashing through the door and to the dinner table. My mom's cooking was the best cooking and I think everyone could agree with that. This evening, was going to be a good evening.
