Lord Shu ran through the forest at an amazing speed- yet without making a sound. He had 2 minutes to get to the spot indicated by Ariadne according to their calculations. He came to the clearing, saw the lake and dived in. His legs kicked through the water as he made his way down to the weed at the bottom. Moana’s face almost drained of life stared back at him. He pulled her from the weeds and gathered her into his arms. Pressing his lips to hers lips he blew a golden light into her being. He watched it go in through her mouth and spread throughout her body. Satisfied with the result, holding her close he swam deeper and deeper down to the very bottom of the lake. He whispered words of love for her as he went.

“My Beautiful one. Don’t let go. Don’t give up. The hardest part is over. You know that.” He lightly kissed her eyelids as they descended down further and further until he came to the portal he had been seeking. He opened the door and they passed through it. Once through he swam no longer through the water- but through the space between heaven and earth, through Te Ao teretere noa ana - down through time, back to the beginnings of consciousness itself, to where finally a speck of light appeared. The light grew bigger and bigger until it formed a tunnel. The tunnel moved in a circle of revolving light. Ever new and replenishing.

Moana’s eyes fluttered open, the fear, despair and loneliness she felt melted away. She nuzzled her head into his arms and felt safe, the first time in a long time.

His smile dazzled her with its brilliance.

“I am not sure what will happen from here, but we will get through it together. I am taking you where you should have come at the beginning. It will make everything that happens next easier for you. There is no need to struggle, to enter our world through pain. I want you to find a better way.” He moved Moana’s face closer to his, and pressed his lips to hers. His passion surged through her body replacing the energy that had almost completely drained out of her only a moment ago.

“You are not alone” he murmured. “I am here for you. We are all part of the same after all.” Once again his lips brushed hers and he moved them up her neck. “I could not let us be parted again. A day or a thousand years.”  Moana could not keep her eyes open and passed out with his golden smile returning the light to her mind.

She awoke to find herself in a cave. He had lit a fire inside a giant fireplace that burned within. The walls were red and gold and round in the flickering light. The only furniture was a wooden stool beside the fire and a large canopied bed with the gilded feet of a bull. Moana was wrapped in a woven coverlet made of feathers. It reminded her of a Maori cloak. Yet the feathers were of different colours and hues than those of her home. He saw her movement from his place beside the fire and moved towards her on the bed.

“We need to talk before we go any further. There are things you must understand, and words that must be spoken.”  His firm hand found hers and he lifted it to his cheek, rubbing it gently across his golden skin in like one would with a piece of softest silk. His lips brushed over her fingers.

“Ah my beautiful one.” He murmured. “There is so much to explain that cannot be explained with the mind, only with the heart. I will do so if you can be patient with me. I am the light that guides you. Your passion, your love, your illumination in the darkness. I always will be. Do not let mortal feelings of guilt overshadow our love. I know that you trust me. Yes?” his green eyes pierced hers. Moana nodded.

“You have in the past sacrificed yourself for the causes of others- which is noble in itself...yet there is something you have not accomplished.” He held her eyes in his as he delved deeper within. ‘Ah- the fulfilment of your own soul’s desires is wanting. You have not allowed your own passions to lead you forward. The Passion of your spirit must guide you, if you are to get to where you belong. Let go of your past and your future, of what you already know. It is only then that you allow your spirits passions to manifest within you. ” His radiant smile shone upon her bathing Moana in its glow. “I am Lord Shu. He who illuminates. He who allows the divine light safe passage through the darkness. Let me free you from the illusions to which you have become attached.”
