something strange happened.

usually at lunch, luke would sit with michael and calum and occasionally ashton (he was already graduated from high school but was best friends with the three so lots of times he would come to eat lunch with them as a visitor), while estrella would sit with her friends. when they started dating, they both agreed to sit with their own friends, because they didn't want to exclude them.

the lunch period started like any other day; luke was enjoying his friends' company. he felt a tap on his shoulder so he turned around. estrella stood behind him, a tray of the school's food in her hands.

"can i sit with you?" she asked quietly, enough for only luke to hear. she snuck nervous glances at calum, michael, and ashton, and it was obvious she was on the verge of tears.

"uh yeah, of course, babe," luke patted the seat next to him, and estrella timidly sat down.

luke was extremely confused; he never saw her like this, so sad and so fragile.

"are you okay?" luke nudged estrella's arm, concern evident in his voice.

"yeah, i'm fine," she smiled, her eyes glistening and glassy. luke placed his hand on estrella's hand that rested on the table. he gave it a reassuring squeeze; he knew her well enough that she didn't want to talk about what happened so he didn't ask.

"hello," ashton waved to her and smiled. luke knew he was trying to help.

"so you're the famous estrella that luke always talks about," calum teased, which made her giggle.

"aw, you two are too cute," michael flicked his wrist in a joking manner. he still had a spoonful of the canned fruit that was part of the lunch in his hand, and it ended up splattering on calum's shirt. it just led to a playful fight.

luke looked over at estrella to see how weirded out she was, but instead he saw her laughing , the loud and real laugh that he had missed so much.
