Rydel's POV

"Rydel, I’m leaving for work,” a soft voice whispers.  I let out a groan of acknowledgement before rolling over onto my side.  “I love you,” he whispers.  I let out another groan before I feel his lips on mine.  The kiss ends quickly, and Ellington is off to work.   I stay snuggled under the blankets for a little longer, until I hear Julie in the kitchen, talking extremely loudly.  I reluctantly get out of bed and put on some clothes before walking out of my room, into the hallway.

“Jules, the kid sucks at his job!  I don’t want him bringing me down with him,” I hear a staticy voice whisper.

“Well it’s not his fault.  It’s only his second day!  Just give him a chance,” Julie sighs as I hear something sizzle on the grill.

“I’m trying, but it seems like he’s clueless.  There’s something off about him, have you noticed anything weird about the girl?” he asks.

“Calvin!  They’re just scared teenagers!  They’ve both had rough pasts and they’re adjusting to this new environment!  I bet you’d be a little clueless if you were in his shoes,” Julie snaps.

“It’s not just that.  He acts weird.  It’s like he doesn’t even know his own name!  When anyone asks him a question about himself, he seems to have no idea how to answer it.  They’re lying to us!  There’s something we don’t know about them, something they don’t want us to know,” he states.

“You’re getting paranoid.  They’re just teenagers that need a little help.  You’re doing a good thing for this boy, just be patient with him,” Julie coos.

“No Julie, I promise there’s something off about them, I just know it,” he growls.

“Well what are we gonna do about it?  These kids deserve their privacy, so we don’t need to be getting in their business about things they don’t want to tell us.  Now just relax and get back to work,” she sighs.

“Ok, but I’m keeping an eye on this kid.  You keep an eye on the girl.  If she does anything suspicious, tell me.  We don’t have to take care of them,” he demands.

“Ok dear,” Julie sighs.

“I mean it.  If there is anything off about her, call me immediately,” he says gravely.

“All right.  I just finished making her breakfast, so I’ll go wake her now.  I’ll talk to you later, honey,” she sighs as I scramble back to Ellington and my room.  I jump under the covers and squeeze my eyes shut.  He’s onto us.  What are we going to do if they find out that we’re wanted for murder!  I need to talk to Ellington, or somebody who knows the complete truth.  Basically, that’s just Ellington.  Or maybe…

“Hi Rachel, it’s time to wake up,” a soft voice coos.  I let out a gasp as I jump a little.  “Sorry to scare you, but breakfast is ready.”

“Oh, it’s fine.  Thank you,” I sigh as I get up.

“How was your sleep?” she asks as we walk into the kitchen.

“It was fine.  What about you?” I ask quietly.

“It was good.  You slept for a long time!   You must’ve had quite a tiring walk,” she laughs.  You have no idea.

“Um, yeah,” I say awkwardly.  “How much time do we have before we need to take Alex to school?”

“He’s already at school, it’s ten o’clock,” she states as she sits me down in front of a plate of french toast.

“Oh, I really did sleep for a long time,” I blush.

“Yeah, plus you fell asleep on your walk.  I think it was kinda cute how Eli carried you home,” she smiles.  He did?  Last night was a little hazy with all of the different emotions I was feeling and what not.
