Ellington's POV
“Dinner’s on the table!” I hear Julie yell. Rydel and I both rush over and take our seats, eagerly awaiting both of our favorite time of the day; dinner. Cal and Alex both walk in from the backyard, where they were previously playing a game of some sort.
“I made a special steak dinner to celebrate a month of Eli and Rachel being here!” Julie smiles with joy. Alex smiles as well, and Cal looks less than amused. I look down at my steak, anxious to devour it.
“Thank you,” Rydel says politely as I start eating.
“Thanks,” I say with my mouth stuffed full of meat.
“You’re welcome! I have some other things for you to eat if you’re still hungry, Rachel. You need it since you’re...how far along? Six weeks?” Julie asks. Rydel nods politely as she starts eating. Dinner eventually comes to an end, after Rydel eats all of the food she has access to. Even though we don’t know for sure, I’m pretty sure she’s pregnant. It’s still killing me not knowing though.
After dinner, Rydel heads back to the bedroom and I help with the dishes. I try to make myself look as good as possible, because I’m still a little nervous that Cal is onto our secret. Even if he isn’t, he still seems to dislike me. Whatever, we can still run away if worst comes to worst. Hopefully we won’t get framed for murder again.
After all of the dishes are clean and I’ve watched a few hours of tv in the living room with the family, I head back to my room. I get myself ready for bed and changed into my pajamas before laying down next to Rydel. I’m about to fall asleep when she gets up. Soon, I hear the sounds of vomiting. I get up quickly and rush into the bathroom to find Rydel throwing up. She stops for a moment, and then continues once more. I kneel down next to her and wrap my arm around her for comfort.
“Don’t touch me!” Rydel exclaims as I rub her back.
“Why not?” I whine.
“Because I’m sick!” she exclaims.
“You’re one month pregnant! This is just morning sickness,” I assure her. She is about to yell back at me, when she turns her head back to the toilet and vomits again for the third time. She lets out an agonized scream as she coughs up more of her dinner.
“Come on, let’s get you cleaned up and you can go lay down,” I sooth as I try to help her up.
“No!” she screams as she collapses on the floor.
“Rydel, you’ll feel better if you’re in your bed,” I sigh.
“It hurts!” she screams as tears start to form in her eyes.
“What hurts?” I ask.
“Everything,” she groans as the tears slide down her cheeks.
“Well then, I’m beginning to think this isn’t morning sickness,” I sigh.
“Ya think?” she screeches.
“Is everything ok in here?” a concerned Julie asks as she pokes her head through the bathroom door.
“No,” Rydel sobs.
“Sweetie, what’s the matter?” she asks as she kneels next to Rydel.
“I need to go to the hospital,” she whimpers.
“Ok, let’s go. Eli, help her to the car,” Julie demands before rushing off. I scoop Rydel up and walk toward the car, shaking vigorously with concern for my wife and possible unborn child. She shakes as well while she grabs onto my clothes with weak hands. I carry her into the cold dry night and into the car, which Julie starts immediately. Soon, the car begins to heat up and Rydel begins to calm down. We arrive at the hospital quickly, and we are brought to a room with a bed for Rydel to lay in.
