Swisher Street
The walk to the dojo was very quiet with everybody lost in their own worries. Once there, they all split up. Moe went up to the apartment to work in the quiet while Danica and Sammie started the enchiladas in the kitchen.
Jamie went to get ready for her lesson. Korbin went to his favorite treadmill, where he could watch the whole place while he worked out. His little sisters, Keesha and Ketara ran up to Sondra with smiles on their faces.
"We have something for you," said one of identical girls.
"The secretary at our school said it was very important to give to you right away," added the other adorable sweetheart.
"Thank you very much," Sondra answered formally.
They both giggled and the first one said, "We didn't know what was happening when we were called to the office."
"Korbin has been called there a lot, but we had never been called there before," shared the other.
"We were happy to help though," they said together.
"I'm glad you didn't mind. I'll be at practice soon, okay?" asked Sondra.
Both shared a grin and darted off with an, "Okay," called over their shoulder.
Sondra smiled as she put that letter with the others she had gathered through the day.
Korbin's sisters were so cute that she had worried when she first had lessons about sparring with them. It was amazing how being on the wrong end of a couple of face plants and hard kicks had cured her fear of hurting them. Keesha and Ketara and the other set of identical twins, Hayden and Kayden, had spent extra time with Jamie learning team tactics. Even though the sets of twins were only five and six, you could tell that they paid close attention. Sondra had to work hard to keep up with the pint sized doppelgangers.
When she joined the group, she was paired with Kayden and Hayden, and knew that she would have a good distraction for the rest of practice.
An hour later, Sondra had a few more bruises. But since she had thrown Kayden a good ten feet, and Hayden almost fifteen, she considered it a draw.
At least she did until Kayden came up and asked, "Can you throw us one more time? Flying through the air is lots of fun, and you throw us better than anyone except Jamie."
Hayden nodded and added, "We would ask Jamie, but she is busy right now."
Sondra turned around and saw Jamie talking to a pretty lady in a dark suit and carrying a briefcase. The lady had her long dark blond hair pulled into a loose bun. It made her look professional, but showed off the classic lines of her face.
Sondra saw Jamie motion in her direction, and the lady looked over and met her eyes. Then Jamie went and sat down at the counter with the lady. Sondra froze for a second and noticed that her hands were shaking. She forced herself to breath before turning back to the little boys and saying, "Sure. One more throw each." It would give her time to calm down.
They both gave a yell in delight while they had their "air time." When they couldn't wheedle another throw from Sondra, they rushed over to talk to Keesha and Ketara. Sondra hardly hesitated before heading toward Jamie and the lady. Jamie noticed her coming and looked relieved. She said, "This is Libby Mac Inness. She is the DHS worker that needs to talk to us."
Ms. Mac Inness smiled and said with a soft drawl, "Imagine my luck when I did some checking and found out that you both would be here tonight. It will take awhile to get through all the steps for both of you. Do you have a spot I can set up?"
