Cloudleaf's Pov

Cloudleaf padded slowly through the forest, nodding respectfully at any patrols the passed by. Keeping her ears pricked, she stepped into the clearing. There was a small stain of dried blood in the center where Bramblestar had been. But now, Cloudleaf noticed a small trail of blood leading from somewhere near the edge of the clearing.

It looks like he was dragged to the middle of the clearing after being knocked out. Carefully, Cloudleaf sniffed the grass, there was a faint scent of Bramblestar, but she recognized another scent which confirmed her suspicions.

It smelled natural, any other warrior wouldn't have picked it out from the other forest scents, but Cloudleaf remembered that scent. She'd spent many moons surrounded by it.

Bramblestar said he was ambushed, but what would they want with him? Most likely they didn't know he was a leader. So perhaps to scare us before they make another move. That had alway been their favorite tactic.

Cloudleaf followed the scent to the edge of Thunderclan territory. It led off into unclaimed land.

It's just like them to sneak into the forest just to terrify us. I wonder if they know I'm here...

Cloudleaf shivered. It wasn't the possibility of being found out that scared her, it was what they would do to get her back.

A bush rustled behind her and she spun around, catching a glimpse of white and brown. "Who's there?" Cloudleaf yelled. She watched in surprise as a small brown-splotched apprentice emerged from the bush, "Cloverpaw." She sighed, "Did you follow me?" Cloverpaw nodded.

"Why?"

The apprentice scuffed her feet nervously, "I wanted to know where you were going." She admitted. "Where are we anyway?" she looked around. Cloudleaf gave her a stern look, "You weren't supposed to come with me. I was...gathering herbs. And decided to take a better look at the spot we found Bramblestar. As for where we are, this is past Thunderclan territory. It's unclaimed and belongs to no cat" Cloverpaw nodded, believing her, "did you find anything?"

Cloudleaf shook her head, "Not a thing," she lied, "Let's go back to camp." She turned and started heading back into the forest. How much do I tell him? Do I tell him at all? Cloverpaw scampered next to her, silently following Cloudleaf. She seemed to sense that now wasn't a talking time.

The two cats pushed into camp and Cloudleaf flicked her tail at Cloverpaw, signaling for her to go. Cloudleaf padded back to her den and poked her head in, hearing steady breathing. Bramblestar was still asleep. She ducked out of the den and turned to find Squirrelflight, deciding that she would tell her only about the scents and warn to prepare for possible battle.

Squirrelflight was sharing a mouse with Silverleaf. As Cloudleaf approached them, she lifted her head and nodded in greeting. "Hi, Cloudleaf. How's Bramblestar?" Cloudleaf sat next to them, "Better. It'll be a while before he's back up and ready though." Neither of them seemed surprised by the news. "Squirrelflight, can I talk to you?" Cloudleaf would have to word this carefully. Squirrelflight had quite a temper. The deputy nodded and Silverleaf stood up, "I should check up on my apprentice anyway." As the silver warrior padded away, Squirrelflight turned to Cloudleaf.

"So, what'd you find?"

Cloudleaf let out a short purr, "Of course you knew where I went." She hesitated, "I found...and unfamiliar scent. It's very hard to separate from the forest. We must have missed it the first time. Bramblestar told me he was ambushed."

Squirrelflight's eyes flashed, "Whoever dared attack him...I'm going to shred them." she growled.

"Maybe wait until we can find 'them'" Cloudleaf reminded her. Squirrelflight nodded, "did you follow the scent?"

"Yes, It led out of our territory."

Squirrelflight nodded, "I'll send a patrol up there later. For now, let's keep this between us and maybe a couple of senior warriors. The clan doesn't need to know yet."

Cloudleaf agreed and stood back up, heading to her den. It was getting dark, but she didn't want to sleep. Instead, Cloudleaf swerved away from her den and headed into the forest, taking that path that would bring her to the top of the hollow.

Sighing, she sat down, staring up at the darkening sky. Silverpelt shone gently as it came into view, It's stars scattered like diamonds across the dark clouds, they seemed especially bright tonight.

"I never thought I'd see them again." Cloudleaf whispered, "Starclan, what's about to happen to the clan? I'm not ready for this." A star streaked across the sky and Cloudleaf caught a familiar scent, feeling a sensation like another cat was brushing against her, "Dusk?" She murmured, there was a faint outline of a lithe orange-streaked cat. There must be nightfall to for there to be daybreak. His soft voice whispered into her ear, you will find an ally in the Scarlet Bird. Do not forget your roots, for they hold the truth. In four days time, when the sun bleeds, you must fight. Do not despair. for we are with you Cloudleaf.

The voice quieted and the figure disappeared, leaving Cloudleaf alone in the moonlight with a new prophecy.
