8. Threats

DIEN's POV

"Your friend is quite interesting." Father said as he entered my library.

I was sitting on my favorite oak chair by the desk and paid no attention to him. He sat at the sofa in front of me.

"Now I know why you're so attracted to her."

"Leave her alone." I said looking straight into my father's eyes.

"I'm not doing anything.. for now."

"Don't you dare lay a finger on her or else---"

before I could finish my sentence, a strong force swept me like a piece of paper into one of the shelves. Books flown everywhere as I fell to the floor.

"I warned you son. You won't like what I can do to your little love if you'll not stop this idiocy."

"I.. I will not.. let you hurt her.." I said, forcing myself to stand. Holding on the table for support, I looked straight into his eyes.

"I will protect her even if it'll cost me my life!"

"I gave you your life! I can take it away from you any time I want!"

"Then do it! Do it and leave her alone. Just take my life and spare Brielle's."

"You're a fool!" he pointed his finger toward me that made me excruciating in pain. As if someone just hit me with a hard object. "Do you think if she learned the truth about you, she'll accept whatever it is? She'll leave you and you'll end up blaming yourself for being foolish!"

"She.. won't do that.. She's.. different." In between breaths I uttered. I heard father took a deep breath.

"Go on.. do whatever you like but if ever I noticed that she's ruining our plans, I'll personally take care of her nuisance."

Then he left.

Whatever he say, I will not stay away from Brielle. She means everything to me now.

Another day for research works. This day is somewhat exhausting. I have to climb several ladders to get the books that I need.

Just like now, the book Divine Comedy is on the upper shelves. I slowly climbed the ladder but I was only halfway there when my right foot slipped and I lost my balance.

Before I hit the floor, something caught me. As I opened my eyes, I saw his worried expression, as Dien hold me in his arms.

"Are you trying to kill yourself?!"
