Overcoming her fears

Chapter 5- The past I never knew

Jem's Pov:

I'm sorry, did I hear that right? A b-brother? But he can't be my brother, there's just no way. It's totally impossible! But there is a ch- no Jem! He's not your brother, he's just messing with you. That's it! He's trying to fool you into thinking a lie.

"I don't have a brother." I said calmly.

"Oh really? Then how do we have the exact same colored eyes?" He asked smirking. That smirk was really starting to get on my nerves, I just wanted to smack it off his face.

"You have contacts. Anyone could do that." Then he tilted his head in confusion.

"What's contacts?" I felt my mouth go wide. He's joking right? He walked closer to me, and closed my mouth.

"You'll catch flies like that." I moved his hand away from me. Then his attention went to something else. "Markus!" He exclaimed.

"Who's Markus?" I asked dumbfolded.

"The Griffin." Then he made his way over to him, and I heard something snap. And where once stood a Griffin, now was where a man stood. "Nice to see you again Markus."

"You too Jeremiah." He said. While they worked up a conversation, I just stood there in confusion. Markus was the Griffin? The Griffin was Markus? 'Both of them were the other thing! It doesn't matter! Markus shifted into The Griffin.' I thought.

"Hold up! Back the truck up!" Then their attention pointed toward me. "That beast, was Markus?"

"I'm not a beast! I'm a Griffin." He said.

"Enough you too! Yes Jem, Markus is a Griffin. In which I'm terribly sorry that we didn't tell you sooner. But back to the real situation, Jem did you look in the locket?" Jereimiah asked.

"Yeah I did, then it just started burning and I dropped it. And I shifted again." He nodded his head, and looked down to see the locket. Then he handed it back to me.

"That picture was of us Jem, we took it right before your third birthday." He explained. I looked at it again, then he placed his hand on my forehead. "I'll help you remember, but you have to believe that I'm telling the truth."

I took a deep breath, and then I saw it.

Flashback:

A/N: Picture of young Jem up in the "photo icon"

"Sissy! Brother!" I shouted running down the halls of our house.

You see we were playing hide and go seek, because we got bored of waiting for papa and mama to get changed for the picture. I had on a white dress with pink shoes, and my purple hair was tied up in a pony-tail.

I ran around the corner of the hall, when I spotted Laila. She was hiding behind the curtain, in which I could see her because of her new shiny white shoes were showing. I slowly crept over there, and yelled.

"Found you Sissy!" She came out, from her hiding spot and smiled at me.

"You found me Jem! Now let's go find Jerimiah!" She said, then held out a hand for me to take. In which I gladly took it, and we ran throughout the house to look for him.

>>Timeksip 20 minutes.........

I was ready to give up, but Laila was far from it. She was always competitive in games, in which she let me climb on her back so she could keep going. I'm only two! I get tired of things easily, in which I was ready to do something else.

Then she came to a stop, and let me off of her back. Right as I was about to tell Laila to forfeit the game, all of the sudden I heard someone sneeze. Both me and Laila turned around, to see a closet where it came from. I slowly opened the door and there revealed a chucking Jeremiah.

"I found you!" I exlaimed.

"Don't you mean, we found you?" Laila said.

"No Laila, Jem found me." He said getting serious. She walked closer to him, and they looked mad at each other. I walked between them, and pushed them away from each other.

"Break it up! Break it up! Both of you be nice." I said. Then suddenly someone came into the room, and they were papa and mama.

"Papa! Mama!" All of us said, then we ran towards them and gave them a hug.

" Jeremiah, Laila, and Jem. We'll be leaving for the picture now." Mama said, then she bent down next to me. "Are you ready to get a locket just like Laila and Jeremiah?" She asked me. I nodded my head, and she grabbed my hand.

They put the picture of all five of us, into a locket and she put it on my neck. It was a golden locket with a silver necklace.

"I love it! I'll never take it off." I said.

"Now honey, that locket is very special. It means 'No matter where each of us are, we'll always be together as one with this. Standing stronger each and every day'. Do you like it princess?" Papa asked me.

"Of cource I do! It's the best present ever!" Then suddenly everything started disappearing, and I was blinded by a white light.

End of flashback:

Tears were threatening to spill from my eyes, but I held them back. 'My mama and papa, that was really them.' I thought. Then Jeremiah took his hand from my head, and stared at me with concern.

"Are you okay Jem?" He asked.

"I'm just fine. Brother." I replied, then a huge smile appeared on his face and he embraced me.

"It's been so long Jem." He whispered.

"I know." Then only one thought filled my mind after that. 'Where was Laila?' I thought.
