Chapter 9: This Is Almost As Awkward As When It's Elephant Mating Season At The Zoo
"Uh um, I mean uhh," I said, flustered.
"It's ok if you don't. It was stupid of me to try anyways--"
"No! I meant to say yes! I'm just taken aback that you want to give it to me. Of all people, why me?" I interrupted.
"Well, I'll tell you if we work out, ok?"
"Ok," I replied; looking at my feet.
We walked into science class without another word to each other. Throughout the whole class, I couldn't focus. I could feel his mysterious eyes on me. It was as if he was studying me to see my reactions to certain things. Thank god this lesson was just taking notes, so that I can copy them off Jenn later.
After class, I met up with Jenn. We walked with each other to choir, which was our next class.
"Well?" She asked me curiously.
"Well what?" I challenged.
"You and Cameron? What the heck happened this morning?" She replied.
"I'll tell you at lunch. Anyways, what about you and Jacob. How did you date go yesterday?" I asked.
"I'll tell you at lunch," she smirked.
"This is why we're friends," I laughed as we walked into the choir room.
"For the upcoming choir concert, we will be singing the 6 songs we have been learning for the past few weeks," my choir teacher, Mrs. Pattingser confirmed.
Yes, I know 6 is a lot. Well, instead of having 4 choirs, 1 for each grade; we have 2 choirs for the whole school. We take it extremely serious, and the 2 choirs are technically junior varsity and varsity. I know, it sounds weird saying that about choir.
To get into the varsity choir, you have to try out, and if you suck you get put in junior varsity, just like sports. Jenn and I are in varsity choir, even though we are only freshman. That means were the coolest people ever, right? Ehh, probably not.
The following songs are our 6:
• Under The Bridge, by Red Hot Chili Peppers
• Fall For You, by Secondhand Serenade
• Weightless, by All Time Low
• Empire State Of Mind, by Alicia Keys
• Clocks, by Coldplay
• It's Gonna Be Me, by N Sync
Every year, they have some sort of joke song, and we end off the concert with that song. Try and guess which one it is. I knew there would be a joke song, yet I still fangirled when I found out what it was going to be.
Once we practiced all of the songs, we were allowed to talk to our friends until class was over.
"Hey, so care to explain?" Jenn said to me as she scooted over to my spot on the risers.
"I told you that conversation is for lunch, does this look like lunch to you?"
"Ha. Ha. Ha. No. I was hoping since we had time right now you'd tell me," she pushed.
"Well, I'll tell you at lunch, and right now I'll tell you about my first tennis lesson at Merander."
"Oh yeah! I forgot about that. That was yesterday, right?"
"Yep."
"Well, what happened?" she asked, now anxious to know.
I told her all about these things: the people there, the conversations we had, and the things we did. I even told her about the conversation Matt and I had afterwards.
"I SHIP IT!" she exclaimed.
"WHAT?!?! Who?" I stared at my blonde, blue-eyed, best friend.
"YOU AND MATT!!" she laughed.
The whole room got quiet around us, because she had just yelled.
"Wellllll, this is awkward," someone across the room stated.
"Yeah, almost as awkward as elephant mating season at the zoo," I said in a loud voice.
The entire room erupted in laughter, including Mrs. Pattingser. I think she was laughing the most actually.
YESSS! I MADE THEM LAUGH!!!! I AM VICTORIOUS.
A few minutes later, Mrs. Pattingser dismissed us. Jenn and I headed off to our next class. If you didn't guess yet, Jenn and I have the sand exact schedule. I guess we got some good luck, am I right?
Our next class was math.
Well crap. I am terrible at math.
We walked to class, making quiet small talk on the way. Some of it included Jenn fangirling about Matt and I, even though I know she'll be all over the thought of Cameron and I later.
Our teacher for this class, Mr. Beschta, hates children. I think this, because he makes us have assigned seats, so I have to be separated from Jenn all year, because he doesn't change up the spots all year. If you don't like someone you sit by, you're pretty much screwed. Wonderful, isn't it?
Thankfully, the only people I sit by are Alice, Drake, and Josh. Yes, you heard me right, Drake and Josh are at the same table. At least Mr Beschta had a sense of humor.
Alice has dark skin, black, very straight hair, and an extremely dark shade of brown eyes. Actually, I'm pretty sure she is Lester aka That One Tall Guy's sister, if I remember correctly. She always wears adorable o2l beanies, and just cute clothes in general. She has always been super nice to me; ever since we were in Kindergarten. We've never been all that close to each other though. Maybe this year we'll change that.
Drake has medium in length, windswept, bleached, blonde hair, and pale green eyes, so I guess he doesn't exactly LOOK like the Drake you would think of at first. I've only known him for a few years, but the one thing I know 100% is, he is a class clown. He often gets good grades, but he likes joking around with everyone and pissing teachers off.
Josh has short, red hair, and pale skin that is washed over with freckles. His eyes are a light blue and bright green mix, so it feels like you are staring at a globe when you look in his eyes. He doesn't talk all that much, but when he does, he makes it memorable.
Math class kept on going in its regular routine:
• Teacher teaches a bit
• Drake interrupts with some random comment
• Teacher tells him he has one of three strikes, then keeps on teaching
• Drake keeps on interrupting anyways
• Teacher gives up, and just gives us our homework
Once class was over, I met up with Jenn, and we walked to lunch.
"Spill," she said instantly as soon as we sat down.
