Chapter 23: New Feelings and A Funeral

When Matt told me about Cameron and what he did, I was shocked. It turns out that Cameron was somewhere with Matt, because they were friends, and they were with a few other people. All in all, their night ended with Cameron killing everyone there except Matt. I don't know why he did it, or why Matt was the one left alive, and I guess I never will. If you didn't hear the news, the funeral is today.

I wore a black dress, and I curled my hair, because he always said it looked beautiful when it was curled. His voice rung in my ears, and I could barely make it out of my room. When my mom and I finally left to go to the funeral, every song on the radio was sad, or really, really, really annoying. we just drove in silence, and it fit the depressing mood looming over me.

The whole thing was a blur of listening to speeches, mixed with many tears along the way. I couldn't bear to believe that a funeral for my, well, whatever he was to me just happened. I fought back tears in the car ride home, and just stopped fighting them. They streaked down my face, and dropped off of my chin on to wherever they decided to. when we were home again, I just laid in my bed, until my phone vibrated.

EatSleepTennis: Hey, I heard that the funeral was today. Just saying hi to hopefully comfort you

I felt a tiny surge of happiness trail through me at the sight of Dylan's cute little message to me.

MusicalFaith: Hey, thanks for trying. I already feel a little better, but I just feel so lonely :(

EatSleepTennis: you want me to come over to your house? Meet you somewhere?

MusicalFaith: Meet me at Culvers.

EatSleepTennis: Want me to pick you up?

MusicalFaith: Sure, as long as my mom doesn't care.

EatSleepTennis: See you soon

"Mom!" I yelled to her across the house. "Can I go to Culver's with my friend, so I can get my mind off of Cameron?"

"You're supposed to be grounded, but I guess I can let it slide just this once." she called back.

"My friend will come pick me up, so you don't have to drive me."

"Okay."

"I'll have a kids chicken tender kids meal, with fries and a soda," I ordered once we got there. When he heard what I said, Dylan just looked at me and laughed, "What?!"

"A kids meal!" he laughed.

"You're such a jerk sometimes," I muttered.

He then ordered while I found us a two person booth to sit at. Surprisingly, there were a lot more people here than last time. There must've been some sort of event where kids decided to meet here afterwards. Kind of like how it's a tradition to go here after choir concerts or musicals at our school.

He grabbed our number and walked over to our table. He then put down both his soda and the number.

"Hey," I smiled, somehow easily forgetting everything from that day just from seeing him. I really hope that doesn't mean anything. It's probably just my conscious trying to replace Cameron. It is, hopefully, not what I think this means.

"Hey." He added, "It seems as though you're already cheerful after all of this."

"I don't know. I guess everyone just needs a little bit of time alone when they lose someone, but then just need someone to fill the loneliness," I admitted, hoping that was the real reason I felt like I was floating right now.

"Well, now I'm here to fill that spot of loneliness!" he smiled his perfect smile. Gah, don't think like that Faith, you'll just fall for him if you do! "So! What do you want to talk about?"

"How about something happy, like puppies and rainbows," I shyly smiled.

"Of course, everybody loves puppies and rainbows," he joked. I had a flash back to another one of our odd conversations during tennis about puppies and lava buckets.

It went a little like this:

"So, you want to hit a cross-court shot, so you can get a puppy for your birthday," Scott explained. "But if you hit it down the line rather than cross-court, you get a lava bucket."

"One question, the puppies won't be put in the lava bucket, right?" Maria quick asked.

"If you want them to," Scott started. "Yes, yes they will."

"But I don't want them to!!" I said.

"Well then, don't hit the ball wrong," he replied evilly.

We spent the rest of the lesson making dumb jokes about puppies in lava buckets, and by the next lesson, almost everything Scott said was followed by something about puppies in lava buckets by one of the students.

<end of flashback>

"Hey, Faith. Faaaaiiithh, are you in there?" Dylan asked whilst laughing a little bit.

"O-oh sorry, I was just thinking," I laughed and remembered some of the first words I had ever heard him say.

It went like this:

"Helloooooooo? Earth to Dylan," SnapBack Dude said while waving a hand over his eyes.

Hmmmmmm, so that is his name.

"U-um...sorry, I was just uh, thinking," he replied shaking his head, furrowing his eyebrows.

"About what?" That One Tall Guy said leaning in, trying to apply peer pressure.

<end of flashback>

"About what?" Dylan asked.

"I'm just having a lot of flashbacks right now," I explained.

"Ohhh, about Cameron?"

"Uh, yeah. I'm just really sad right now," I flat out lied. Oh, these news feelings are going to be hard to get rid of.
