I come across a book that I haven't noticed before, it looked like it had been read 1000 times but then it also looks like it hadn't been touched in decades. I walk it over to the desk that sits in the corner of the room and places it down gently. I just stare at it for a couple of seconds, I have no idea if I should open this or not. As I touch the cover and go to open it I hear Alex shouting from the kitchen.
I smile and leave the book there, getting up I walk through to see the cookies sitting on a plate in Alex's hand. Putting them down, he walks towards me and wraps his arms around my waist. Kissing me twice he puts his forehead to mine.
"Two kisses because I love you twice as much as you love me." I pull him closer to me and give him a massive hug. Pulling away I smile at him and pull him in for another kiss. After a couple of seconds he pulls away and I see the massive smile on his face. "I would love to stay and kiss you but I really do need to shower and get ready." I take a sniff of the air and take a step back.
"Yeah you better go do that. I'll just wait down here." He kisses me on the cheek and takes two steps at a time up the staircase. Walking back through to the library I take a seat in front of the book. Chewing on my nails I debate on whether I should open this.
Letting my curiosity get the better of me I open the cover and take a look at the first page. It was the Black's family tree, I smile as I trace my finger all the way down to a little picture of Alex. He had a big toothy grin and was holding a big badge with the number 6 on. I smile and lift the page again, turning it over I glance at the page. It was a different family. I hear Alex call me from outside, I close the book but one name sticks out to me on that page.
Derek. It was probably a coincidence right? Like how many people on this earth is called Derek? Shaking my head, I grab my clutch and make my way outside. As I walk out the front door, Alex is standing there with the car door open and a massive smile on his face. I get in the car and before I know it he's already in the driver's seat and we have taken of down the road. We arrive outside a very fancy restaurant and Alex comes around the car to open the door for me.
He walks me into the restaurant and we sit down at a table with a 'Reserved' sign. I smile at him as he pulls my chair out, he sits down opposite and he smiles back at me. A waiter comes up to our table holding a wine bottle and starts to pour our drinks. My eyes meet Alex's and he continues to smile at me.
The night was perfect, we had our own meals and then shared a dessert. The food was phenomenal. Nothing like I had ever tasted before. It must have been past midnight when we got back into the car to drive home. He had his hand on my leg, rubbing small circles with his thumb. This must have been the happiest I have ever been in my life, the ride home was slow as we got stuck in a load of traffic. As we were sitting there he would occasionally lift my hand up and kiss each knuckle.
We eventually arrived back at his house and when I look out of the window I see a load of balloons and rose petals. Alex comes around the door and opens it for me, I jump out and walk up the path to his front door. He jogs up beside me and grabs my arm. As I turn I see him smiling at me and he gets down on one knee.
I stand wide eyed staring at him, he continues to smile and then starts to talk.
"Annalise Evans. You have made me the happiest man in the world over these 6 months. I wouldn't have ever thought this was possible. I have met the most amazing girl in the universe and I love her more than she could ever imagine." Tears start to well up into my eyes and I bring my hands up to cover my mouth as the biggest smile spreads across my face. "So here is one ring, for the one person I love the most in this world."
I go to answer when we suddenly hear shouting coming from inside the house and the front door flies open. Me and Alex both look to our right to see what the commotion is. My heart starts to go into over drive when I see both Derek and George standing there. I look to Alex and then back to him. A wicked smile appears on his face as his eyes drift to Alex.
It was Derek. Standing there with the most wicked smile on his face.
"It's good to see you son." I stand completely frozen until I hear my name being called from inside the house. George steps out of the front door, still in his army gear. I don't even respond as my eyes are stuck on him.
Alex goes to speak again but I take off running. I hear the wicked laugh of Derek and then hear footsteps behind me. I try to go faster but my legs fail me and I fall into the road, I look up and see Derek standing over me.
"Little Katherine. How helpless you are now." He leans down beside me and tucks strands of my hair behind my ear.
"You were never going to out run me forever. I had people everywhere looking out for your car and when Alex found it outside of the police station I knew they had relocated you here. I had to bide my time with this one. You gave up Xavier too quickly for me to care about hurting him too much so I just came straight here and I've been watching you ever since." Tears stream down my eyes as I swat his hand away and go to get up. His hand grabs my throat and holds me against the road as he pulls a gun from his pocket.
"It's the end of the road for you Katherine."
