"Hey, big sister?" suddenly I heard a pinched voice coming from my doorway."Fuck!" Owen whispered and jumped away from me. He cleared his throat and turned around to face Rue, while scratching the back of his head.
"Are you two like mommy and daddy?" she asked, her eyes lit up. Owen snorted.
"I just wanted to say that I'll be downstairs watching cartoons." she said once again and left us both standing and trying to hold the laughter.
"Yea, Bel. Tell me, am I your daddy?" Owen chuckled, once Rue was gone and I hit him.
"Oh, so you like it rough!" he kept laughing and I laughed too, and I couldn't stop.
He started to run around my room like a little kid playing a game.
"Do you want me to catch you? Grow up!" I said, while laughing so hard that I now had tears in my eyes.
"Try me." he gave me a cunning smile and winked at me.
"Yea, suuure." I said, while half turning around to fool him. Then, all of a sudden, I started to run to him but my genius plan didn't work. Owen was already out of my room before I could even start moving.
"You're pathetic, Bel!" he sang and went downstairs.
The big smile on my face was there for quite the time after he left.
I quickly went into a shower. I came back into my room with only a towel around my body. I kept staring at the black shirt that he left on my bed. I picked it up and smelled it.
"Wouh!" I whispered.
Wearing it would be like having Owen on me. Not really, but something like that.
It smelled like his cologne, a bit of soap and his mint gum and cigarettes.
I didn't think for long after that. For pants I got just grey sweatpants and I put my hair in a bun.
When I finally walked downstairs, Owen was already sitting on the couch, with Rue on his lap and they were both watching Scooby-Doo.
I walked to them and sat down.
"I like it on you." suddenly Owen whispered. I turned around to see his eyes locked on my body. I smiled and looked away.
"I want cookies!" Rue whined.
"Ookay!" I let out a long breath, thankful that Rue just broke the tension. We all got up.
While Owen was carrying Rue, who was yelling and laughing, I decided to call mom.
"Sweet, I can't talk right now!" she whispered in the phone.
"Yea, I know. I have one question though, you might know that Cindy with her parents are going to a waterpark tomorrow morning, so Rue wants to stay the night over at their place." I talked as fast as I could.
"Yes, Karen called me this morning. Just don't forget to pack Rue's pillow, she can't function without it." my mom said.
"Also I'm going to Liz's beach house over the weekend. Is that okay?" I asked.
"That's a bit unplanned, sweet, but of course, you can go but just be careful and text me every day." mom sighed, did a kiss sound and hung up.
"Rue! You can go!" I yelled and put down my phone.
And then we baked cookies. It was more like an adventure than cooking because in the end, we were all covered in flour. But the cookies came out pretty good. The whole time we were also singing Rue's favorite songs.
While i was washing the dishes and Rue was upstairs packing her things, Owen walked to me from behind and whispered "boo".
"Fuck!" I let out while half jumping up, then trying to calm my breathing.
"Two of my teammates are having a party but how about we just drive in my car for a while when we drop Rue? You know, get some food, listen to music, drive around the city, break in some old house maybe? What do you say?" Owen asked, yet again all of a sudden being nervous.
I smiled.
"Why not going to a party?"
"I mean, if you want to, we can go, of course. I just thought that maybe.. I just wanna spend time with you alone." he smiled back and interlocked our fingers together. We were both looking at our hands.
"I'd love to drive around the city with you." I smiled. He smiled wider.
"And do math!" I added and he groaned.
"You're such a mood killer."
I just wore a sweatshirt over Owen's shirt, took my phone and math books, and I was ready to go.
Next we had to go through trying to convince Rue that she needs to have her seat belt on.
"But Owie knows how to drive well!" she yelled and had her angry and pouty face on.
"Yes, but let's put it this way. Would you want for your most loved people to miss you every single day and be deeply sad in case someone else doesn't drive well and something bad happens?" Owen said, while holding her hand. I exhaled.
Owen will be a good father one day. I'm sure of it.
"I would never want to make you or sister, or mommy or daddy sad. Or Cindy or Caroline, or.." Rue kept going on.
"See?" Owen smiled at her.
"I'll put my seat belt on." she said and adorably smiled at him.
When we both got out of the backseats, he grabbed my hand and spun me around. I put my other hand on his chest, so I wouldn't bump into him.
"Maybe I really should consider being a daddy to someone." he whispered and winked at me.
I started to laugh.
"You're disgusting!" I said.
"But you love it!"
We both smiled.
