He didn't see me coming. I planned on running around and in front of him, but instinct told me something else. I ran straight towards his low form and right before I ran into him, I did a quick front flip over his head and landed directly on my feet. I quickly faced him and couldn't help but laugh at the sight of him. He was staring up at me with a hand over his heart and his mouth ajar. His jaw now bobbed up and down, as if searching for the right words, but couldn't find them, which just made my laughs that much more intense.

"What in the bloody Glade was that?!" he screeched, before standing up and shaking my shoulders.

" I don't know. Didn't know I could do that!" I exclaimed back.

"Please, please never do that again, you gave me a shucking heart attack!" he grinned, clearly trying not to laugh. I nodded quickly before my face grew somber.

"Oh I'm sorry, you know I didn't mean it" he said softly while taking a small step closer. I looked up into his eyes before speaking.

"No, it's not that. It's just that.." I couldn't help but just let everything go tumbling out.

" It's just, you're leaving! What if you don't come back? Then what do I do? Even though we only just met, you're the only person here I really trust so far". Newt's eyes softened, and he slung an arm around my shoulders.

"Look out there" he says, pointing down the long corridor of the Maze.

"So? It's just the Maze" I replied.

"Yes, it is. It's also the only way out of this place. I don't know how I know, I guess it's just a feeling, but it's my duty to get all these boys out of this place. If I don't do that- run the bloody maze every day- then I feel like I'm not doing all I can. I feel shucking useless. So you see? I need to go out there. But don't worry, I'll always come back. Who else would keep this bloody place running? Minho?" he snorted. "Okay, Minho could and would do it, but that's not the point. the point is that I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. If you want, you can be waiting right here when the walls close and we can have a chat. Sound good Greenie?". I couldn't keep the huge smile off my face.

"That sounds amazing, thanks Newt!" I grinned, giving him a quick hug around his lean waist. He smiled before ruffling my hair, turning on his heel and pumping his arms and legs down the long hall and into the heart of the maze.
