"What the shuck is wrong with you?" boomed Minho at Gally, who glared at me over Minho's shoulder. I shrunk back against Newt underneath Gally's stare.
"I told you not to tell anybody!" screamed Gally, still looking me right in the eye. I wanted to turn away, but I couldn't. I'm pretty sure he was staring straight into my soul.
"Someone go get Alby, this slinthead needs to be punished!" shouted Minho, who was seething, to the group of Gladers now crowding us. I didn't know what to do, so I just turned my body to face Newt. His mouth was set in a straight, tight line, and there was a stone cold look in his eyes I didn't think I would ever see on him as he stared at Gally. When Newt finally looked down at me, his gaze softened and he crouched down, placing his huge hands on either side of my face gently. He just simply looked me in the eyes before gently taking my wrists and looping my arms around his neck. He lifted me off the ground and began to carry me towards the Homestead. I looked over his shoulder as he walked, and spotted Alby and Minho yelling their heads off at Gally, whose face was red from anger.
Suddenly, Minho jumped on Gally, beating him, and it was bloody. I buried my face into Newt's shoulder and clutched fistfuls of the material on his back tightly, trying not to cry. He smelled surprisingly good for someone who ran around all day and only showered once a week. The thought made me smile, but only for a second as my my mind was quickly taken over by Gally's screams of pain as Minho pummeled him. I heard the creaky sound of the Homestead door opening, and felt the elevation as Newt ascended the stairs. He brought me into his room-well, I guess our room now- and lay me down on his bed. He pulled off my sneakers and gently tucked the blankets up to my chin before sitting down on the edge of the bed and stroking my head.
"You're gonna stay in here from now on, alright little bugger? I don't want you to get hurt like that again" whispered Newt with a concerned face. " I'm gonna go speak with Minho and Alby to decide what will happen to Gally, but I'll be back later". Newt stood up to leave, but I quickly grabbed his arm.
"Newt?"
"Yes love?"
"You're the best big brother I ever could have asked for" I told him, and I wasn't lying. He really was. A look of surprise, and then pure joy washed over his face. He bent down and gave me a tight hug, holding me to his chest. We stayed like that for a while, Newt whispering comforting words in my ear and cuddling me, lulling me into a deep sleep.

NEWTS POV
"You're the best big brother I ever could have asked for", she finished with a smile. I couldn't believe it. For the whole time that I've been here, I've always wanted someone to love and protect, and now I have somebody. I hugged her tight and didn't let go. Kayla fell asleep after a while, and I placed a soft kiss on her forehead before heading down to the council room.

After a 3 hour Gathering, it was decided that Gally would spend months in the Slammer on only bread and water. I thought he should have been banished, but Alby insisted that he was needed in the Glade. It didn't make any sense, he broke a rule and should bloody be punished, but I was too tired to argue right then. I just needed to shower, and then I could go the shuck to sleep, it's been a long day. I slunk into the shower rooms, and turned on the freezing cold water. Stripping myself of my clothes,I let out a gasp when the icy water hit my skin. It still surprised me every time. Quickly scraping all the dirt and grime off of myself, washing my hair and drying off, I threw on some fresh clothes before trudging up to my room.
I nearly jumped out of my skin when I spotted the lump underneath the covers on the far side of my bed, but then I remembered putting Kayla there earlier. I sighed, she had been here for such a short time but had had already been through so much, poor little shank. I tugged my t-shirt over my head and chucked it on the floor before sliding into the opposite side of the large bed as quietly as I could. Obviously, I wasn't quiet enough, because she stirred and moved a bit. I quickly folded my arms behind my head and closed my eyes, just thinking. I was pulled out my thoughts when a sudden warmth appeared along my right side. Kayla had curled herself into that side of my body, and was shivering. She must be freezing! And after all the klunk that happened today. I slowly pulled her closer and wrapped my arms around her. As her "older brother" it was my duty to keep her warm and happy and safe. She turned over so that she was facing me and snuggled her face into my bare chest.
"You smell so good" she murmured in a sleepy voice before throwing her arm over my stomach and just holding onto me. I smiled at her comment, and drifted off into the best sleep I'd had in a while.
