I climbed all the way to the top of the tree, grabbing each branch with ease. Didn't know I could do that. I smiled to myself at the thought. I settled back against the trunk sitting on a sturdy branch. I closed my eyes and tilted my head back. The only thing familiar was the blue sky. Everything else was just too much. Heavy breathing below me brought me out of my trance. Looking down, I spied Newt staring up at me.

"You are one fast Greenie" he called, "And what are you? A shucking monkey?" Greenie? Shucking? These guys talk weird. I laughed and shrugged my shoulders with a smirk.

" Well come on down ya bloody shank we gotta get to the Gathering" he stated. I crawled back down the tall tree while Newt waited patiently.

"Ata' girl" he mused, keeping a motherly eye on me until I plopped down safely next to him.

" C'mon. Let's hurry to the Homestead" he said placing a large hand in the small of my back and leading me towards the shack in one corner or the Glade. Once inside, he stretched a long arm towards a crate placed in the middle of a semicircle of chairs. I quickly took my seat before observing the room. It looked as if it would fall apart and was smaller than it should have been to have  15 smelly boys in it at once.

"Alright, alright settle down shuck heads " said Alby as he stood and walked towards the center of the room. "We need to decide what to do with the Greenbean. She's a girl, and we've never gotten one of those from the Creators. Frypan, you're up first". It went on like this. Each boy would speak their thoughts on what to do with me, and in the end it was decided that I would stay in the Homestead because, well all these teenage boys and one girl, you get it. I was also to be treated like any other Glader, which I was totally fine with. I don't think I'm an attention seeker.

"EARTH TO GREENBEAN" someone was shouting in my face, which snapped me out of my daze.

" Woah what what?" I exclaimed before falling over backwards in my chair and realizing the Gathering had ended. A hearty laugh sounded from above me as a tall, muscular Asian boy stepped into my view. He looked like he was about 16. He had a good build for 16. Damn.

" I'm Minho, and you have are one clumsy Greenie" he said with that annoying smirk still planted on his face. Scrambling to my feet, I threw my hands on my hips and looked him in the eye.

" My name is Kayla, not Greenie" I reply with a stern facial expression.

" Okay Greenbean. Whatever you say. I'm the Keeper of the Runners, and I also got the 'challenging' task of showing you your room" he says still smirking.

"Keeper? Runners?" I asked curiously.

" You're curious ya no" Minho stated more than asked. " Now move your butt shank".

" I am not a shank!" I glared at him.

"Please, you don't even know what it means" he said with humor laced in his voice. " Ya wanna see your room or not?". I grudgingly nodded before following him up a set of stairs that didn't look like they could support our weight. Minho led me down a dim hallway before stopping at a door.

" This is your room" he said pointing at it. " If you ever need anything, I'm across the hall and Newts' right next door". He gestured to the two rooms before walking back down the stairs. I slowly opened the door to my new room and trudged inside tentatively. On one side against the wall was a sleeping bag on the floor and a small, poorly crafted dresser on the other side. A medium sized window, which was really just a hole in the wall, was facing out over the Glade. I watched the sun set for a few minutes. It helped ease the pain and sadness that was slowly taking me over. I didn't know who I was, where I was or who any of these people are. All of a sudden, a searing pain ripped through my head, like someone was stabbing a knife through my skull.
