"So... Um... I guess I'll show you the Glade now." I squeaked out of nervousness. Jake nodded with a confused look. We began walking side by side, our arms brushing every now and then.
"In that corner is the Homestead, where the Keepers and I sleep, and the Gathering room is in there too. That corner is where the animals and crops are, and the building is where the Slicers work, they're the ones who uh... Well, you know, cut up the animals." He stopped me all of a sudden.
"Wait, where did all the animals come from?" He asked while looking at the farm.
"I'm not sure, you'll have to ask Newt or Alby, or maybe even Zart." I replied and set off again.
"Those are the Deadheads, basically where our graveyard is. That building is whe-"
"Why is there a graveyard?" He questioned with a wary look. I looked at the ground, and shook my head a bit.
"I'm not the right person to be asking that." He nodded and took a deep breath.
"As I was saying, that's the Kitchen, where Frypan and his staff cook our food. Never try to get any food when it's not mealtime, 'cause Fry won't be happy." I giggled a bit, remembering when I made that mistake and Frypan threw a fit. Jake laughed along with me. His laugh was ADORABLE. I blushed and stared at the ground some more. All of a sudden, Minho came jogging up to us.
"Newt wants to see you Kayla, I'll show the Greenie where he'll be sleepin' from now on." He said quickly before dragging Jake off. I rolled my eyes and stomped towards the Homestead. I knew exactly what Newt was going to say. He's SO overprotective sometimes. I saw him right when I walked in, leaning over some papers at a table near the wall.
"Newt." He spun around with a forced smile.
"Kayla! I wanted to talk to you about the Greenbean." He said, the smile dropping from his face. I sat down in the chair across from him and folded my arms on the table.
"So, I saw how you guys were looking at each other earlier." He started.
"Unbelievable! He hasn't even been here an hour and you're already telling me I'm not allowed to talk to him! Why do you always do this? I'm not a child! I can make my own decisions!" I yelled at him. He sat there with an infuriated look in his eye.
"I was going to say that I think you should just be careful. You may not be a child, but you are minet o protect, and I wouldn't forgive myself if something bad happened to you. I won't let anything happe. Not again." He spoke in a hurt voice.
"Oh, Newt." I stood up and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you, I'm sorry I should have heard you out before I made any assumptions." I apologized as he lifted me off the ground, causing me to giggle.
"It's okay, I know I get annoying sometimes." He smirked.
"Very." I laughed as he put me down.
"I better go find Jeff, he won't be happy I'm not doing my job." I said as I left the Homestead and headed towards the Infirmary.
