Blair:

"This is your mental test. If you don't pass then you get one more chance. If you still don't pass then you will have to wait till next year. I hate to say that this is a competition but in reality, it is. Only thirty of the fifty people will make it through. The others will go home immediately. I know we were all over the place this past few months. We cant get back who we lost even though we wish we could. From now on we will be what we once were. Remember you don't have to be in Lunar to do good in the world. Try your best."

I feel pretty good about this part of the test. I only worried about the physical part. I wasn't that strong like most people. I shouldn't worry too much though because I know they will look at both to decide.

I wrote the seven paragraphs they asked us to write at the end for extra discipline points. Most people didn't do it but I figured it wasn't so bad. At least I wasn't the last this time but I was far from the first. This is all we had to do today.

I figured I would lay down and rest but my mind wouldn't let me. It's been hard to sleep these few days knowing they were probably torturing him.

I found myself in front of the building they were keeping him in. Who am I kidding, I'm not even ranked they won't let me in.

"Blair?"

Malcolm walked up to me tilting his head in confusion.

"Hi, Malcolm."

I gave him the biggest fake smile I ever put on.

"Oh come on girl. If you want to get in you need to at least try to pretend you have access to. Come on, I have an idea of why you are here."

He pulled out a key card and the door unlocked. There was nothing on the walls. The floors and walls were white with one bright light in the middle of the long hallway. There was one door at the end of the hall. Malcolm pulled out another key card around his neck and the doors opened. Well I was wrong, it wasn't a door to another room or hallway but an elevator. But this building was so small. It was also only one story unless there were more floors underground.

I got that one right. The further we went underground the colder. I wrapped my arms around myself.

"You have a thick coat on, you're still cold?"

My jaw started shaking but I bit down to stop it.

"No, I'm fine."

The elevator finally stopped and the door opened. The blast of cold air almost made me get me in the elevator. There were cells down here. We walked to the third one and saw Allen chained to the wall. His hair covered his eyes but it didn't cover his split lip and bruises.

"What have you done to him?"

"I didn't do anything I didn't even know they were treating him like this."

Duke turned the corner and started walking towards us. He wasn't at his brother's speech before the test so I figured he was here. He whipped his hands on a bloody cloth then stopped in front of me.

"Fuck she's doing down here?"

"Um, she just wants to talk to him."

"He has visitors when I say he can have visitors."

"No, you can't treat him like that. He is human you can't take away his writes you didn't give him a lawyer or even listen to his side of the story."

He looked at me surprised.

"So you with the traitor? Hell, I always thought you had a thing for the girl."

"What, no it was never like that. I mean, look at how close they were why would he do anything to hurt her."

"Get her out."

"Wait, let me talk to him. Maybe I can help. Doing it this way isn't going to make him talk if he is hiding something."

"What makes you think he will talk to you?"

"I'm not you, trust me if he talks it would be to me not you."

His jaw twitched and he walked away.

"Aye your more determined than I thought."

I gripped the cold metal bars he doesn't need to be in here.

"Can I get like twenty minutes with him alone?"

"Um, sure."

He unlocked the cell and I walked in.

"Can you get us some blankets?"

"Yeah hold on."

I kneeled in front of him and gently placed my hands on his face. He slowly lifted his head. His once familiar green eyes glanced up at me. They weren't the same. I once looked into them, they looked broken before but now they were shattered. I could tell that he now believed he did it.

"Allen..."

"I want to confess."

"No. Don't."

"Just have them kill me already. I have nothing left. Everyone I ever cared about is gone. There isn't a point anymore. I want to end this pain. Please kill me!"

"Allen, you didn't do anything."

"Maybe I did. Even if I didn't I still don't want to be alive."

"Don't say that."

"I promised myself I would protect them. My family, Ren and Scarlet. I'm so pathetic. I can't even save myself."

"They wouldn't want you to beat yourself up like this. I'm sure they want you to be happy."

"How can I be? There is nothing left in this world."

"You can help me fight them. Help me kill whoever did this."

"What are you talking about?"

"Whoever killed them."

"But I killed them."

"No Allen, you didn't just help me with this ok."

"You're going to end up dead just like them."

"At least I didn't give up like you."

I dropped my hands and stood up. As I closed the cell I heard Malcolm call my name.

"You're done already?"

"Yeah, I don't have hope for him like I once did. Just give him the blankets I don't want him to be cold."
