Slumber Party

By now I am absolutely exhausted. It's about 12:30am and we've only just arrived in what Sam calls "the bunker", (when really it looks like some serial killer hide out).

I help MJ down the stairs. Sam gives us a quick tour of where we can find the bathroom, kitchen, tv room etc.
Finally he drops us off in a cold and dark room at the end of a long hallway.

Sam turns on the lights. "This is where you guys can stay tonight." He says. "Sorry it's a little dusty, we don't typically have guests."

My eyes wander around the small room. There's a little desk in the corner with cob webs all over in, and what looks like a 200 year lamp.
A bed sits in the middle of the room. One double bed.
Just one.
Sam must have noticed my eyes widen when I looked at the bed.

"Uh." He speaks up, "sorry we only have the one bed. I can get one of you a sleeping bag if that'll work out better." He trails off awkwardly.

"No no." MJ answers. "We will make it work." She looks over to me and smiles very awkwardly, immediately stopping her eye contact.

Ahhhh this is so awkward.

Sam leaves the room and slowly closes the door.

MJ and I are just stood, frozen, looking down at the bed.
For some stupid reason, when a boy and a girl sleep in the same bed, the whole situation is automatically sexual. Which really sucks because no one wants to say why it's awkward out loud. Everyone just pretends it's a completely normal situation, making it entirely more awkward.

The last time I slept in a bed with a girl, was at my friends 6th birthday party. I was the only friend she invited to stay the night.
Back then, I was seen as a girl.
That night was actually the first time I told someone that I thought I might have actually been a boy. Of course I didn't understand the concept at all back then, but she made sense of it quite easily. She ended up telling me I had to sleep on her floor of the hallway since I was a boy. Her parents were very strict about the whole "no boy's in the bedroom" rule.
That was the first time I felt validated. But it only lasted until morning, when her mum asked why I was sleeping on the floor.
I remember her exact words; 'oh honey, you're not a boy silly, where'd you get that idea?'

It was mortifying.

I really like that now, I can pass as cis. It really takes away any opportunity for someone to belittle me. I guess when I first moved to a school where people only knew me as 'peter', I didn't want anything to ruin that. I kept my mouth shut.
I kind of regret not telling MJ to begin with. I really do worry that if I tell her (or anyone) now, she won't understand or be ok with it.
I don't want to ruin our friendship.

"So" MJ mutters. She holds up the very cheap pair of kids pjs Sam got them at the store. The only ones they had were green, button up, with a dinosaur pattern. Better than nothing I suppose.

"Oh." I realise she was gesturing for me to leave the room a minute while she gets changed. I awkwardly point the door and walk my way out, closing the door behind me. I shut my eyes, cringing about how freakin awkward this whole week will be.
When I open my eyes again, I see an unfamiliar man, wearing a trench coat with dark brown hair.
I jump back a little into the door, bumping it with my head.

"Uh." The man squints at me. "Dean told me we had company." His voice is very monotone, but also quite low. He looks more awkward than me (on a good day).

"Hi..." I say, extremely confused. Was this another brother?

"My name's Castiel. I kind of... live here right now. I just thought I'd come meet you both."

I almost fall back as MJ opens the door. She's wearing her slightly too small pjs and a worried expression.

"Hi?"

"Oh hello, my name is Castiel. I live here too."

MJ looks over to me, and back to him. "My name's Michelle... but you can call me MJ."

"And my name's Peter-"

"Parker." Castiel cuts me off, muttering my own last name before I can. "Apologies, I've just seen a few of your cartoons. I watch a lot of tv when everyone sleeps." He faintly smiles.

"Oh." I say, remembering I'm practically famous here. "No worries buddy." I laugh awkwardly.

"We have another kid living here at the moment too. He's asleep now but in the morning I'll introduce you." Castiel says.

"Oh cool." MJ says, Un- enthusiastically. "How old are they."

"Almost 3." Cas says. Shortly followed by a 'goodnight' as we walks back up the hallway.

"Ok... you can get changed now if you'd like." MJ opens the door for me. She waits outside the door as I walk in to find my pjs.

Of course they are matching.
