Chapter 14

There's a constant nagging feeling that something happened to Yaguri, and a constant bad feeling when I think Yaguri and the Association not contacting me are related deep inside. Yaguri always contacts me, but with the false vampire claim about me from the association, it has me worried for his safety. Wait...isn't there a rule about any hunter associated with a Vampire Hunter's mark is subject to questioning..?! I widen my eyes, as I remember that association policy, and run towards Kaien's office. I slam the door open, without knocking, or warning to his office. The Pureblood and Kaien look towards me. "Yona? Is everything alright?" Kaien asks. "Have you heard anything from Yaguri? It's important." I say not apologizing for intruding without welcome. "I haven't now that you mention it..." Kaien says deep in thought. "Never once has he forgot to contact me when on missions longer than a week or so. Not once. He disappeared right before Ren was given the mark to exterminate me. They, for who knows what reason, thought I was a Level E Vampire. The association has a policy. You remember it right? If any Hunter is associated with a Mark, they will be subject to questioning, and depending on the result..." I trail off. "Will depend on whether he or she lives or dies. Yes, I remember quite well. The most favorable result would be the person's temporary expulsion from the association. The worst result...I'd rather not think about." Kaien says, pinching the bridge of his nose. "If you allow it, I will look into the reasoning behind the false mark on Miss Hatashi's identity myself. I will also keep an ear out for anything reguarding Mr. Yaguri. However..." The Pureblood trails off, reminding me he was in the room as well. He looks to me. "Until this situation is resolved, I'd advise you to keep Miss Hatashi guarded at all times. Where there is one Mark, there is always several Hunters." The Pureblood says. I narrow my eyes. "My safety be damned! Let them come, if I find out they have anything to do with Yaguri's disappearance, I swear to god I'll kill them." I say fists clenched, fuming with rage. "I need to find Yaguri and keep him safe, that's it." I finish. "You are no good to him dead Ms. Hatashi." The Pureblood speaks. "Unfortunately finding Yaguri will take time, while we search for him, we need to make sure you are safe. After all, if we act recklessly, and something happens to you...I fear The Association will be the least of our problems." Kaien says, hands intertwined, light reflecting off his glasses. My eyes widen as the words sink in. He's right...if something happened to me and word gets to Yaguri...there'd be hell to pay.. "Indeed. Your safety is the top priority." The Purblood speaks up, standing. Who the hell gave him the right to get involved..?! Although...as much as I hate to admit it...his aid would be valuable.. I decide to hear him out. "And who would be stupid enough to guard a Hunter's Mark?" I ask, crossing my arms over my chest. A knock at the doorframe behind us catches our attention. "Lord Kana--" Kain stood before us, cutting off once he sees the three of us. Oh no.. "Am I interrupting..?" Kain asks sensing the tension in the air.

I shoot a glare at The Pureblood. "Don't even think about it." I say narrowing my eyes at Kaien and Kuran.

You've got to be kidding me! I stomp down the hallway. "I don't know why you're so angry." Kain says having no trouble keeping up with me. I stop immediately and whip my head towards him. "Because this does nothing but make things worse!" I say throwing open my door, slamming it closed. However before it can completely close, Kain stops it, walking inside. "We should be focusing on finding him, not sitting here! For all we know he could be injured or, or being tortured as we speak!" I say angrily, worry spilling over. Pictures of Yaguri being tortured cloud my mind, sending me into an even more intense panic. I sit on my bed but am too restless to stay there, so I quickly get up and pace. "I can't...I can't just sit here and wait for his body to show up at our doorstep!" I say, my hands covering my face before fisting. "I should be out there looking for him!" I say throwing an arm out towards the door, before walking towards it, only to have Kain step in front of me, stopping my advances. "No you should do exactly what they said and stay here where it's safe." He says. "Safe?! You think this place is safe?! There's already been two attempts on my life! Not only that but now a damn Vampire is who they pick to guard me! In what world is this place safe?!" I snap at him. "Ouch." He says crossing his arms over his chest as he leans against my wall, a smirk on his face. "It's nothing personal it's just...ugh! This is so frustrating!" I say throwing my arms out. "I know. I get it, but going out there, guns blazing would only play into their hands." He says. "Yeah bu--" he cuts me off by placing hands on my shoulders, lowering his head to look me eye to eye. "Look I know you're worried about him. But think about it. What good would exposing yourself do? Do you really think they'll let him go after they catch you?" He asks, pulling me out of my rant quickly. If I just gave them what they wanted...they'd most likely kill him. After all, why keep the worm if you already caught the fish? I doubt whoever is behind all this would feel any different..they've already proved they don't leave loose ends.. The flash of Ren's face comes to mind. I sigh and shake my head. "No...no they wouldn't...not to mention if Yaguri is released, he'd probably kill me himself once he found out what I did.." I say smiling ruefully. "Exactly." He says releasing me. I sigh again. Dammit Yaguri...you better be alive or I'll bring you back just to kill you myself! That's a promise.
