"You're such an idiot".
I look at Lucas, crossing my arms.
"You know you'll never get over her this way, right?"
He scribbles mindlessly in his notebook, occasionally glancing up at the girl sitting in front of us. She's biting her pencil, playing with her pink hair.
"Shush, she can hear you" he whispers, annoyed. I frown, and cross my arms.
"Like she doesn't know already" I scoff.
"Of course she doesn't" Lucas whispers angrily, before continuing to draw the girl in his notebook."Yes she does".
Lucas and I look up, at the pretty girl who has now turned to us.
"H... Hi Jay" Lucas stutters.
I feel a vague feeling of secondhand embarrassment as I look at Jay's smug grin.
"Hey Luc, how's it goin'?" she asks.
"Uhm" Lucas answers. Her grin widens a bit, before she turns to me.
"Hi Dean" she says.
"Hi Jay" I say back. I can't help but have a slight dislike towards her. It's nothing personal, but the way she changed Lucas into this lovesick idiot puppet annoys me. And sure, she never meant for that to happen, she doesn't even date guys, but she didn't need to be so cool and pretty all the time."Excuse me? Am I not interesting enough for you?" our teacher interrupts.
"Sorry miss" Jay says, turning back to her.
Lucas and I both apologize too,
I look at my friend, and roll my eyes when he starts drawing himself next to the small Jay he just drew.
"Lucas" I whisper. He looks up, and I shake my head.
"Stop".
He pouts, but puts his pencil down. There's a red color on his face, and he fiddles with the neckline of his sweater. Something he often does when he's embarrassed. Our teacher is talking about physics, and I watch him walk back and forth. He's a young man, very enthusiastic about his work. I look at a few girls from the cheerleading team. They all look at him with dreamy eyes. There's just one girl who seems focused on what our teacher is saying. She's taking notes, writing very quickly. I've seen her a couple times, I believe my friend Landon knows her. Then again, he knows a lot of people.
When the class is finally over, me and Lucas walk towards the football field. It's our first break of today, and we almost always spend it sitting on the bleachers. Sometimes Landon comes along too, but he's too busy being in love with his boyfriend and getting fat because he eats ice cream every day.
We sit down at the bleachers, and talk about some random things we did this weekend.
"So, then I went to a very strange restaurant. They had one dish that was just oranges. Nothing else. They just gave you eight oranges and that was your dessert" Lucas says. I half-listen, nodding at the right moments. I've gotten used to his endless chatting. At least it's not just about Jay anymore."Hello".
We both look up, and I silently cringe on the inside. There's a girl standing in front of us, hands on her hips, and brows furrowed in a permanent frown.
"Hey Kathryn" I say. Lucas doesn't say anything. He's been afraid of her ever since the net-incident. It's a long story.
"You missed training yesterday" she says, her voice cold.
"I was sick" I say.
"You both were?"
"I... I kinda sneezed on him..." Lucas stutters. She squeezes her lips together, snapping her head to Lucas. He looks back at her with big eyes, like a deer in headlights.
"Oh, thank you Lucas. Thanks to you, we missed two players last Friday. Jay and Landon kept goofing around with each other and..."
"That's not our fault, Kathryn" I say calmly. She looks back at me, and lets out a long, tired, breath.
"Well, at least the people we missed are the worst players in the team" she says, before turning around and walking away in a fast pace.Lucas doesn't start breathing again until she's far away from us.
"She's so terrifying" he says with a thin voice.
"I'm convinced she's a robot" I say. "She doesn't even smile. Have you ever seen her smile?"
"She smiled once" he says. "When that girl Robin was sent off the team by her request".
He shudders.
"I haven't seen her since".There's a short buzzing sound coming from his pocket. He grabs his phone, and looks at the message.
"What is it?" I ask, scanning his face. For a second, he looks a little worried, before he quickly looks up and smiles.
"Nothing" he says. "My dad just asked me about... Nothing. Oh look, there's Landon!"
He points in a random direction, and I look up. I don't see Landon anywhere.
"You're awful at lying, you know that right?" I ask, and I look at Lucas again. He shrugs.
"I just thought I saw him. Anyway, we should go back inside the school".He jumps up, and starts walking away.
"Lucas" I say, and I sigh. Why does he have to be so stupid?
"Lucas!"
I get up, and run towards him.
"Stop walking away you moron" I say, when I catch up. "You could've just said it's private".
"But it's not, it's just not important" he insists. I don't believe him, of course, but I don't want to keep talking about this.
"Okay" I say."Landon!"
The blonde boy looks up, and grins when he sees us.
"Hey!" he says, and he walks towards us. "How are you?"
"Good!" Lucas says. "Jay talked to me today".
I groan, and roll my eyes. Landon doesn't seem to understand this isn't a good thing, and smiles even wider.
"That's great! I think..." he says. "She talked to me too! She told me that she saw Kathryn talk to you guys and I felt a little worried for you".
"She cares about me?" Lucas asks, little sparkles in his dark green eyes.
"I guess so" Landon answers. Then, they both look up at me. And again, as I do every day, I come to the realization that my only two friends are also the biggest dumbasses in the entire school.

I know I didn't do this in Landon's book but here's Lucas and Dean made by using the app Live Portrait Maker. I thought it'd be practical to show you seeing as I'm terrible at writing physical discriptions :)
That's Lucas :)
That's Dean :)
Okay,
Bye!
