I should be happy that the fight with the enforcer ended a few days ago. I am relieved that we can go back to a normal life and start building our own family, but Nikolas hasn't woken up since then.

Demetrius confirmed that his condition had stabilized, and he only needs time to recover. But I'm still worried. If his health is supposed to improve then why isn't he waking up? Why does he look so pale and weak? I keep feeding him blood every day, but he keeps losing weight. I can't believe that he is the same man I met nearly a year ago. Everything about him has changed, and I don't like seeing him like that. I hate it.

Because of that, we couldn't head back to the city. Instead, Michael and Matthias went back first to take care of Nikolas' company and some other stuff. So, only Alice, Katie, Demetrius and I stayed behind hoping that my mate would get better.

"How is he?" I ask my mate's best friend who's also a doctor as a hobby.

Demetrius shakes his head with a frown, "I don't know."

"What do you mean? How can you not know what is wrong with him?" I ask while starting to feel lightheaded.

"I can't cure him or give a proper diagnosis without knowing what kind of substance the bullet was coated in," he answered calmly which pulled on my nerves.

"Aren't you a doctor with hundreds of years of experience? Do something, anything!" I exploded before someone gently grabbed my arm.

"Micah, calm down dear. I know you're stressed and scared, but please remember that Nikolas is important to all of us. You won't let my son die. Am I right?" Alice explains while raising one of her perfect eyebrows at Demetrius. This sounded like a threat to me.

"I promise that I'll do anything to save him. I owe him at least this much," he mutters the last part.

"We shouldn't have killed the last enforcer," I grumble in annoyance as I cross my arms. "How can we even know that now?"

"Before Michael and Matthias left, I gave them a sample of Nikolas' blood. They will be able to examine it in the city and send me the report. Then, I'll be able to do something about your mate," Demetrius explained as I let out a sigh of relief.

At least we have something planned. We only have to wait for the results. Hang in there a little bit more. You'll be alright. We will find a way to save you.

"He is not that weak. He has always been stubborn. He will make it. Believe in your mate," Katie tries to comfort me as she gently rubs my back.

I glance at the clock and notice that it has been a good hour and a half since I fed my mate. As I get a knife to cut myself with, they all walk out of the room to give us some privacy. I do a quick work out of it before pressing my wrist against his lip. Tilting his head up, I massage his throat to get him to swallow as much as he can. As I feed my mate, I stare at his pale complexion while playing with his hair. I didn't like this at all.

This is not how things were supposed to go. Those red eyes that used to intimidate the hell out of me. I miss them. I want to see them shining through the dark in a beautiful and proud red glow. Instead, each time he opens his eyes for a few seconds, I only see a dull and faint red hue as if all the passion and strength in him have been washed out.

According to Demetrius, I need to feed him as much as possible to give him strength, but he would have already healed if he drank at least half of it. He usually just coughs everything back out. And it isn't like I can force him to swallow everything back. Thankfully, we mixed some of my blood into his IV drips. It helped him a lot in the first few days, but then something happened and his health worsened.
