Leaves and branches are hitting and scratching my face, arms and legs, but I can't stop. If I stop, everything will be for nothing. No matter what, I have to fulfill my side of the promise. If I do, Nikolas will keep his for sure! I just need to run and escape as far and as fast as I can. I don't know how long or how far I have been sprinting at my fastest speed, but I am running out of fuel. I heavily pant as I force my legs to continue. I doubt the enforcers are still following me, but I can't risk anything or else everyone's effort will be wasted.
It happened last night when everyone went to their respective rooms to get some sleep after a tiresome day of planning and dealing problems at Nikolas' companies. Even Demetrius agreed to help, but it seemed like he also went into hiding since the enforcers are after him too. So, the company's status is staying stagnant, and it had been giving my mate a lot of stress. Because of mere humans, all his family hard work to build this empire may crash just because of these events. I can't believe how two human beings could be everywhere threatening all the vampires. They can't be completely human, it's impossible for feeble creatures like them to be so strong. I know because I was human once. So, how is it possible?
Anyway, it hasn't been even a week since the bombing incident. Nikolas and I were sleeping together when my mate heard a crashing sound coming from the kitchen area. At the start, we thought that it was someone that knocked something off the counter by accident, but the annoying sound didn't stop. It isn't until a scream shook the entire mansion that we jumped out of our bed to witness what was happening downstairs. Everyone was rushing to the kitchen when the smell of blood reached my nose. What we saw was two dark shadows equipped with multiples weapons in their hands and waist as they were about to kill Alice. There wasn't any doubt in our mind before we all charged to both save my mother in law, but also eliminate the threat that was looming over our head for weeks now.
Even if we were outnumbering them, we still had difficulties to slay them. I don't know why, but they seemed to slide away like some slippery slugs. No one got extremely injured except for Alice during the fight, but what we didn't expect was another explosion in our safe house. The blast literally obliterated the building. There was nothing left of it. I can't believe they casually set a bomb off when they were still in the house with us. Fortunately, for us, everyone survived the explosion. At this rate, I should expect one every time I see the enforcers. I wonder if one of them has a fire fetish or something weird like that.
However, even if everyone survived, some of us were gravely injured by the violent blast and required time to heal. Of course, the enforcers knew that this was why they didn't wait to attack. Since I was the one that was the least injured and the closest to the humans, I jumped into the action so I could defend my new family. I only had to buy some time, so everybody could heal and come back to fight.
But before I could do anything, Nikolas snatched me away by my waist as he started to run. I was about to scream at him because he let everyone behind, but when I looked back, I noticed that everyone was running away, just in different directions. We were splitting up, so the enforcers had to either separate or abandon the idea of chasing us. Unfortunately, for us, the man took his car to chase after us. This is the reason why Nikolas and I split up after we briefly talked about our destination.
Therefore, this is why I am here running in the forest that our house was previously built in. I hate to admit it, but those damn enforcers are good and so fucking sneaky! They will regret it. We will be the one to laugh at the end of all this mess.
I stop running after a while when I feel like my legs are about to crumble under my weight. I lean my hands on my trembling knees as I breathe heavily while sweating like I never had before. When I calmed down, I look around me as I wipe some sweat off my forehead, but it doesn't really help to locate where I actually am. All the trees and bushes looked the same. At least, I can't hear the sound of the engine anymore. Hopefully, Nikolas succeeded to escape too.
